The First iPhone Game to Allow Users to Convert Game High Score Points to Real Store Credit at a Real Online Retailer

PrintCountry iPhone Game

San Diego, CA (Vocus) November 11, 2010

You are in charge of your own printing business. There are customers with immediate needs and lots of questions. You must fulfill their printing projects and ink orders in a timely manner. And by doing it quickly and accurately, you build a solid reputation. But if you don’t, they will leave unhappy.

Though it’s only a game played on the iPhone, the new app from PrintCountry.com has a built-in feature that makes it more than just a fun pastime. Players can convert their scores into reward points they can use for discounts on printer supplies or electronics on the PrintCountry website.

“This is a unique feature of our game,” says Mylan Le, customer service manager of PrintCountry.com. “We think good players should be rewarded for their time and skill. It’s possible to get up to twenty dollars in store discounts using points earned in the game.”

Points are based on fulfillment of customer orders, which involves different type of printing projects, paper and printers. Each customer comes in with a “mood scale,” which also can add or subtract to points. If a player fails to correctly match the right elements with the project, the order cannot be fulfilled. If the project takes too long or is incorrect, the customer becomes unhappy, their mood will drop and they will leave. The player loses points. When an order is handled accurately, the business reputation goes up, and points are added.

“It’s not an easy game,” says Ms. Le. “The object is match projects and printers with the right printer, ink and paper, while keeping the time and cost factors in mind. For us, it’s everyday real life, but we believe those who play the game will find it fun and challenging, not to mention rewarding when they use the points for discounts.”

With stunning graphics and many tasks to perform, the game is getting excellent reviews since its release in early November. It was downloaded 300 times in the first three days on the market. The free app was developed by RhinoForce, LLC and can be downloaded at iTunes

HP LaserJet P1505 ? No Frills Laser Printer with 24 PPM

all in one laserjet
by Chris Pirillo

This no frills monochrome laser printer, theHP LaserJet P1505, has a hardware combination that makes it simply one of the coolest printing options available on the market today. It is designed and built for literally one thing and one thing alone: speed. It has almost no luxury features, and no expandability options, yet comes with a low price tag and an incredibly fast first page out time that beats out even the most high end, industrial grade MFCs and copy machines. It is definitely a unit worth taking a look at if you’re in the market for a desktop printer.

HP advertises the HP LaserJet P1505 as being, “surprisingly fast!” and they don’t disappoint. Pounding out pages at a speed of up to 24 pages per minute, this little printer is easily one of the fastest devices in its price category, and the unit’s incredibly fast page out time of only 6.5 seconds makes it one of the fastest devices in any price category! Manufactured with speed in mind, the unit delivers with the help of HP’s Instant On technology that reduces warm up time to virtually zero.

HP’s patented, specially designed spherically shaped toner also helps to keep things moving not only quickly, but at high quality. The HP all in one toner cartridge is the secret to what makes this level of performance possible at such an affordable level, and also makes toner refills easier than ever.

While the HP LaserJet P1505 includes only a standard high speed USB 2.0 port for single PC hosting, another version of the model, the HP LaserJet P1505n, comes complete with a network card and Ethernet port for printer sharing, and also includes a boost in internal memory up to 32 MBs, over the stock memory of only 2 MBs.

Keeping thing’s simple, HP has incorporated a super easy to use control panel onto the hardware itself, while the HP LaserJet P1505′s paper handling abilities also assist in maintaining the unit’s user friendly approach with a large 150 sheet output tray. Input capacity comes in the form of a respectable 250 sheet standard letter or legal sized paper tray, and a 10 sheet priority feed slot that can handle thicker media types such as envelopes and card stock.

For wireless networking, an HP wireless printing upgrade accessory is available to make connectivity completely cordless, and easy to set up. Also available are 2 and 3 year warranty extensions over the standard one year limited replacement plan that also includes web and phone based technical support.

Though the HP LaserJet P1505‘s maximum monthly duty cycle is slightly limited at only 8,000 total pages, with a recommended monthly duty volume of 250 to 2,000 pages, the unit doesn’t pretend to be a high volume printer. It is advertised accurately as the device that it is: one of the cheapest, fastest desktop printers out there, if not the fastest for the price. Any home user, or even small office with light print demands, will be happy with the machine.

PrintLizard® Ups the Ante in Online Printing Business

Buffalo, NY (PRWEB) June 15, 2005

MOD-PAC Corp. (NASDAQ: MPAC), a major specialized commercial printer, today announced the launch of PrintLizard®, a unique, charismatic, user-friendly online printing service that offers a wide range of customers direct access to world-class printing quality, flexibility, speed and economies of scale 24 hours a day. Large, medium and small business customers of http://www.PrintLizard.com can routinely get short-run orders at long-run unit prices, and they have the option of ordering products online any time, over the phone during business hours from fully-trained Lizard Liaisons, or from professional sales representatives within a 500-mile radius of Buffalo.

“PrintLizard fills an important market vacuum by offering all print buyers unlimited access to large-printer capabilities for most of their printing needs, whether it’s a small order of business cards or a large order of four-color brochures,” said Daniel G. Keane, President and CEO of MOD-PAC. “People in the commercial printing business have been talking about Internet efficiency for years. PrintLizard is actually doing something about it.”

The vast majority of both local printers and online printing services today are either print re-sellers or small-capacity printers who outsource much of their work to larger companies, such as MOD-PAC. In fact, MOD-PAC cut their teeth on this business model, fulfilling millions of print orders for a large online print re-seller over the last five years. As a division of MOD-PAC, PrintLizard will leverage its high-volume capacities and economies of scale to offer customers a unique combination of cost, quality and personalized service advantages.

“PrintLizard offers print buyers nationwide the best of all worlds,” said Joe Burgio, who goes by the new title of Lead Lizard. “They get the convenience of online ordering; the relationship that comes with personal contact; the speed and resourcefulness of a very clever, 100 year-old lizard; plus all the cost, quality and service advantages of doing business with a large, world-class printer. In short, PrintLizard is the future of commercial printing,” he concluded.

For most routine printing needs, such as letterhead and business cards, PrintLizard customers can simply order, or reorder, from convenient menus and personal account files at http://www.PrintLizard.com. For more demanding jobs, or for customers who prefer personal contact, a fully-trained Lizard Liaison team is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST to answer questions, provide guidance and accept orders. If needed, PrintLizard’s team of graphic designers can provide customized artwork using the latest versions of the most popular software. And quality is assured through PrintLizard’s Proof-Perfect Process™, which includes both hard and soft (online) proofs, and the Lucky Lizard Satisfaction Guarantee™.

Price quotes are delivered within 48 hours via LizWiz™, PrintLizard’s online estimating program. Offset lithographic and digital printing with advanced color management provides high quality and up to six colors in one pass. PrintLizard’s advanced computerized die prepress and die cutting systems fill a wide range of requirements, and its finishing and bindery capabilities include numerous folding and stitching machines to accommodate a variety of configurations. PrintLizard can handle shipments of all sizes to meet just-in-time delivery schedules with efficiency and accuracy.

PrintLizard is a division of MOD-PAC CORP., a differentiated, high value-added print services firm operating a unique low-cost business model. Consistently outpacing the printing industry over each of the last five years, MOD-PAC’s key differentiator is its success at being a just-in-time producer of short-run, quality print products. The Company applies lean manufacturing processes coupled with state-of-the-art printing technologies, and online print ordering to challenge its competition and expand its market share.

Organising A Seminar or Conference ? Get Some USB Pens

by chrisscott

If you’re been tasked to organise a seminar or conference then on your “to-do” list is going to be incredibly long and will no doubt include much of the following:

Identify and book venue making sure it’s the right size for the expected audience, it’s in a location your speakers and attendees can get to and from relatively easily. You also need to make sure that the venue projects the right image for your event. Remember the little things like power to run projectors and computers, lecterns for speakers, adequate height in the room to accommodate your screens and seating that people are going to be happy to sit on for hours at a time.
Get your advertising in place early; use all available channels to promote the event including mailing lists, the web, social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Confirm your speakers and be prepared to chase them for copies of their slides, their bio’s and their speakers’ notes. – make sure they all know where they are going and any specific requirements (dietary etc.) are catered for.
Confirm the attendee numbers to the venue and book the catering and refreshments accordingly
Arrange for in-venue signage so the attendees can find their way to the event.
Select and order some appropriate “thank you” gifts for the speakers.
Organise name badges and consider any special seating arrangements for the day.
Prepare copies of all of the presentation material from the day to distribute to the attendees. (copy slides, fact sheets, media files, speakers bio’s, running order for the day and information on any follow up events they might be interested in.
On the day make sure the attendees have access to paper, pens and refreshments on their tables.

Of course this is by no means a full or comprehensive list more just a “flavour” of the challenge that lies ahead of you. The trick is to take a sharp intake of breath, be grateful for the opportunity/trust that been put in you and plan, plan and plan! Well, a little execution of your plans might also be necessary!

One little thing that might make your life easier and help you to look like a hero is the use of a USB pen – not just any old USB pen drive mind you but a writing pen that also incorporates a USB flash drive. It’ll make your life easier because this one item will allow you to tick off a number of items on your “to-do” list:

The USB pen can be used as a “thank you gift” for the speakers
The USB pen can be pre-loaded with all of the presentation material from the day, speakers bio’s etc. This means you won’t have to print them and transport them to the venue (hundreds of hard copies of slides and notes can take ages to prepare and collated and will weigh a ton!)
The USB pen can be used by the delegates to write notes with during the event
Finally the USB pens can be branded up with your company’s name or the event sponsors name to provide a powerful memento of the event the event.

USB pens will save you time and effort and their cost can be more than offset against the savings you’ll make by not printing material (cost and time). They’re also likely to be popular with the attendees who will have a useful gift that contains all of the event information so that it can be transferred to their PC when they get home or back to the office.

HP LaserJet P1006 ? Bare Bones Personal Laser Printer

printer management
by romanlily

The HP LaserJet P1006 shows all the signs of being an inkjet printer; affordability, small size, and stripped down features, yet operates using laser technology. With a price tag of just over a hundred dollars, this bare bones unit makes it possible to bring the power of laser printing home.

Operating at a decent print speed of up to 16 pages per minute, the HP LaserJet P1006 is at least competitive in the market of desktop personal printers, but its first page out time of only 9 seconds is really what makes it stand out against its inkjet rivals. With a first page printed in less than ten seconds, single page projects will no longer be a cause for concern regarding user down time spent waiting.

The HP LaserJet P1006′s print quality is locked at 600 x 600 dots per inch, but a resolution enhancement mode allows the unit to execute a 1200 dot per inch equivalent print quality for finer looking text and graphics. The unit’s duty cycle is only 5,000 pages per month maximum, which is severely limiting to those wishing for office level, high paper output. HP’s recommendation of only 250 to 1,500 pages per month for optimal performance and lifespan is even more crippling to those with heavy work demands, and the unit should strictly be considered for light duty use.

Standard on board random access memory included is only 8 MBs, which should be enough when dealing with text documents or minimal amounts of imagery, but complex print projects such as full page black and white photos or mixed text and imagery may suffer a degree of slowdown, and, sadly, the HP LaserJet P1006′s memory is not expandable whatsoever, but the unit’s 266 MHz processor should help keep things moving along somewhat.

Host based printing means that much of the processing is done on the user’s connected PC as opposed to internally within the device. This allows for more affordable hardware, and faster print times on minimalistic printers such as the HP LaserJet P1006. The unit’s paper handling abilities can at least be called decent as well.

With a single 150 sheet paper tray that is non expandable, the HP LaserJet P1006 remains small in both physical size and price, yet the printer manages to squeeze in a 10 sheet priority feed slot as well for special media types such as transparencies, card stock, custom letterhead, envelopes, and index cards. A single standard output tray good for 100 sheets is also incorporated into the hardware, and is also not expandable.

The HP LaserJet P1006′s weight of just over ten pounds (10.4 lbs) and footprint of 13.7 in x 8.8 in x 7.6 in (W x D x H) make it extremely manageable and compact, allowing purchasers with space limitations the opportunity to get their hands on laser technology. A single high speed USB port is the only connectivity option that the HP LaserJet P1006 offers, and should be plenty for this minimalistic monochrome laser device designed for desktop use.

Hardware Review: UniXpress USB Port Replicator Takes Laptop Users to the Big Screen

Hardware Review: UniXpress USB Port Replicator Takes Laptop Users to the Big Screen

(PRWEB) August 17, 2005

Any frequent laptop user knows all about the hassles when you return to the office. After a long trip, the very least you need to do is look through your files, print some off, transfer a few others to a thumb drive and connect to the Internet to upload some files to colleagues. Unless you have a proprietary docking station, that means disconnecting the cables from your PC so you can hook up the notebook to your various desktop peripherals: printer cable, Ethernet, monitor cable, keyboard, mouse and others – it gets pretty tedious plugging in one at a time. Then if you find you need something from the desktop, you have to reverse the process and reconnect everything once again.

That’s where the UniXpress USB Port Replicator from Addlogix of Irvine, CA, comes in very handy. The basic principal is simple. If you are a frequent laptop/notebook user but have a desktop at the office – or use the laptop at the office to tie in to a host of peripherals and cables – you can simplify the connect/disconnect process down to a one-wire deal.

In many ways, the device is the next grade up from the usual road warrior solutions such as a docking station or traditional port replicators. Docking stations are proprietary and work with only one specific notebook model, while port replicators are non-proprietary, but don’t function with a Video Graphics Array (VGA) connector – the cable that goes between the PC and the desktop monitor. Why? VGA connectors have 15 pins, whereas USB connectors have either four or six. It hasn’t been technically feasible to try to translate a complex video signal into USB. Various compression techniques have been used without much success – too much jitter, frozen images, voice and image out of synch, etc.

Addlogix, however, has developed an innovative way to accomplish the link between USB and VGA at high quality. Thus the UniXpress bridges the desktop to the notebook with one single cable.

I recently gave the UniXpress a test drive, seeing how it performed on my laptop and how it would interface with my monitor and desktop.

My laptop connected to UniXpress via one USB cable, while all my networking cables, peripherals and other bells and whistles were hooked up to the port replicator. At this juncture, I had the full use of my office equipment on the laptop.

But that level of functionality is no different than a regular USB port replicator. Where UniXpress distinguishes itself is in being the first USB port replicator to offer a connection to a VGA display.

I checked out the various ways that the screens could be arranged. Duplication Mode was the first one I tried. In this one, the same image appears on the notebook and the second monitor. Duplication mode was what I used, for instance, when I decided to type on the laptop and take advantage of the most eye-friendly screen. Both screens were live, but I ignored the laptop image for the larger model.

Alternatively, you can apply Primary Mode if you want only one screen active. In this case, you close your notebook screen and the image remains on the desktop monitor.

Once I had gotten the hand of the simpler options, I was ready for bigger and better things. Extended Mode proved to be a real treat. This enabled me to have different images on each screen. For example, I had Word running on the laptop screen and an Excel spreadsheet on the desktop. Then I put my notes from an interview on one screen and typed an article on the other screen. It was a pleasure to copy text from one screen to the other without having to minimize windows, and toggle back and forth.

Graphic designers can use this Extended Mode capability to facilitate the manipulation of images in Adobe Photoshop and other graphics programs. For mid- to high-end notebooks that already have an additional VGA port, it is possible to add a third screen through UniXpress for an even wider view.

There is yet another choice, known as Multimedia Mode that offers jitter-free DVD playback. Addlogix has developed a patent pending graphics engine that seems to make for far fewer glitches while watching movies.

Where to buy it: UniXpress is available at PCMall.com, and eCost.com.
