How are IR and microwave images from remote sensing satellites printed? How do they substitute the wavelengths?

Question by Jaja: How are IR and microwave images from remote sensing satellites printed? How do they substitute the wavelengths?
Both Infrared and Microwave bands are invisible to the human eye

Best answer:

Answer by ★ Serabi Suspended ★
Both infrared and microwaves are part of the electromagnetic spectrum, which stretches from radio waves to gamma rays. each band of this spectrum corresponds to a small range of frequencies. each frequency is uniquely connected with an energy level.

The total spectrum is very wide. Our eyes respond only to a very small band called the visible band. However, different chemicals do react to certain higher or lower level of energy bands and hence can be used as photographic plates for detecting and measuring some of these radiations.

Satellites nowadays use sensors whose working principle is based on photoelectric effect, converting radiation reaching the sensor iinto electric charge, which can then be easily measured and processed.

Essentially, the energy detected over a given spectral band, whether it is in the visible, infrared or microwave band, is converted to an array of digits corresponding to the energy range and radioed to ground stations.

After receiving it, those values corresponding to the measured energy range (known as grey levels) are finally printed on a computer screen as a picture or as a conventional photograph.

Jellyshirts Release “Outside” Album on USB Flashdrive format

Jellyshirts Release “Outside” Album on USB Flashdrive format

Pompano Beach, FL (PRWEB) May 19, 2007

On Saturday, May 19, 2007, 8:00PM at the John Slade Ely House (51 Trumbull St. New Haven, CT) Independent artist, Jellyshirts, will present why they have teamed with IndepenDisc to issue the unreleased 1998 Album “Outside” on USB Flashdrive format. This show will be held to introduce the public to the USB Flashdrive album as an alternative to (and eventual replacement of) the CD. There will be a short demonstration of the Flashdrive, and then IndepenDisc owner Gary Vollono will appear on a panel with the band to field questions. The band will then perform for the audience. Admission is free.

“The Album format is dying along with the CD. Digital downloads are robbing the artist of the quality and full fidelity of the medium in which they work. Downloads have also diminished the importance of the Album as a legitimate artistic presentation of the musical statement. The Flashdrive format restores all that and more.” says IndepenDisc owner Gary Vollono. Embracing the further advancement of technology, Gary contacted Jellyshirts frontman, Bret Logan, about a “great lost Jellyshirts album” that had been shelved 10 years earlier after only a short printing and no distribution.

Bret Logan responds: “It didn’t take much convincing from Gary to want Outside to be a part of his dream. While all the wranglings that had caused the album to be shelved were now gone, there was still little incentive to release it on CD. It had become clear that MP3s sales were now driving the music business and that the CD was going extinct. But that said, we also had no interest in releasing Outside as a smattering of MP3s. Not only are MP3s inferior quality, we also felt strongly that Outside was intended to be heard as an album.

What Gary proposed was something I’d been hoping for for a long time: the possibility of distributing an album in better-than-CD-quality [.wav] format, and requiring no moving parts — nothing to spin, skip, scratch, or wear-out in any way. As a bonus, the USB drive also offers a lot more room than a CD, which let us add five more songs not on the original album, and an 8 min. video of original recording footage, plus dozens of pictures, and ‘liner notes’ sorts of extras.”

The USB Flashdrive formatted Album “Outside” by Jellyshirts is being made by USBsmg.com, a Manufacturer of USB Flash Drives based in Pompano Beach, FL. USA. USBsmg.com is very excited about “changing the way people listen to music.” – Jon Salk, USBsmg.com.

“Outside” by Jellyshirts, in the USB Flashdrive format, will be available for purchase as of May 9, 2007 through IndepenDisc, and as of May 19, 2007, at most fine music retailers.
