Company phone it seems… chaining me to my Outlook email. At least I’m allowed to make personal calls! And, maybe even flickr from the phone :)

First impressions in the box are good. It looks quite ok despite having a large ugly keyboard. It is definitely a Motorola. It comes with a charging dock with a spare charging slot for a second battery. Is that a hint to it’s short standby time, so typical of WM devices? Still, it reminded me of my first mobile phone, a Motorola MicroTAC I-888 that we got for from Crazy John, who sadly passed away yesterday.

I turn it on to be greeted by Windows Mobile 6, and it’s all downhill from there!

Then I read Gizmodo’s mini Moto Q9m review…
I just got my hands on the first Moto Q9m, and after a couple of hours, I’m ready to send it right back. Seriously, if you buy this phone, you are dumb.
… and I agree. Windows Mobile 6 Smartphone Edition sucks! At least I get a 512MB microSD with it. Full specs below.

HP OfficeJet J4680 ? Wireless Color Printer / Fax Machine

printer management
by Dmitry Kitsov

For the easiest possible setup of a network printer in your home or small office, go with a wireless equipped unit such as the HP OfficeJet J4680. With 802.11b/g wireless technology, users can now forget about hassling with messy chords, and provide print, fax, scan, and copy abilities easily to an entire household.

Utilizing HP color thermal inkjet technology, full color printing becomes both fast and affordable. HP even includes photo friendly features in the HP OfficeJet J4680 such as optimized resolution modes and HP’s Real Life technology that includes HP Adaptive Lighting and HP Auto Red Eye Removal. Standard black and white resolution, primarily for document printing, is selectable up to 600 x 600 dots per inch, while color print modes can be set much higher.

When using select HP photo papers, up to 4800 x 1200 dots per inch quality is printable, while regular paper tops out at 1200 x 1200 dots per inch. When making a copy, only 1200 x 1200 dots per inch are scannable, so photos will turn out best when printed from a computer. When lower resolutions are selected, color print speed can run as high as 22 pages per minute and black and white prints can be as fast as 28 pages per minute. Photos can print in as little as 26 seconds.

Though the HP OfficeJet J4680 is fully wirelessly functioning, it also includes a variety of connection ports for various setups and features. A USB 2.0 port is left open for single host PC setups and potentially optimized operating speeds, while a front USB port is also available for various device connectivity. Phone ports are also included for faxing and an optional external headset.

A special option for borderless printing can be selected for photograph’s, but can also be used on paper up to 8.5 in. x 11 in. in size. Meanwhile, a variety of print languages come standard with the machine for maximum performance and include HP PCL 3 GUI, PJL Printer Job Language, and PML Printer Management Language.

The built in fax machine runs off of a 33.6 Kbps fax modem which allows for fax speeds of up to 3 seconds per page, while a long list of fax features and options give the machine a top of the line standing. Up to 99 numbers can be stored in the unit’s speed dial memory, as well as up to 140 pages worth of data. Other helpful features include fax forwarding, fax polling, PC interfacing, phone TAM, and a junk barrier than can work congruently with caller ID.

Additionally, color faxing is also made possible for unique fax possibilities, though color resolution tops out at 200 x 200 dots per inch versus black and white quality of 300 x 300 dots per inch. With front panel controls and a full lineup of HP support software, as well as a one year limited service plan, the HP OfficeJet J4680 seems like an ideal buy for the home user looking for a color printer.

Tonernow Launches Print Management Solution at LegalTech New York

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 31, 2005

Tonernow, a leading service provider and manufacturer of toner products launches their exclusive Print Management Solution at LegalTech New York, January 31 – February 3, 2005. Company President Henry Kasindorf will be on hand to discuss the programs being offered exclusively to legal professionals.

Organizations utilizing the Tonernow solution can benefit from working with a partner that serves as a single point of contact and can assist in reducing supply costs, repair costs, transaction costs and IT support requirements.

Kasindorf states, “Our solution allows the IT staff to focus on computer related matters such as the network, servers and workstations, leaving the printer related issues to Tonernow. Our exclusive remote management software allows our technicians to pro-actively respond and rectify issues ranging from a Low Toner warning to printer malfunctions. After working with many of the nation’s leading law firms for the past ten years we have developed a comprehensive solution that will allow seamless integration and provide an immediate cost savings and improvement in overall efficiencies.”

A trusted partner to thousands of organizations including several of the largest law firms, hospitals and financial services institutions, Tonernow provides toner supplies for printers, copiers and Fax machines, printer support programs as well as a complete Print Management Solution. Organizations consolidate all print related costs including on-site printer maintenance services with a single vertically integrated supplier.

Industry analyst Lyra Research reports that copied pages are declining on a year-to-year basis, Fax use is continually being replaced by email and the result is a far greater dependency on the laser printers within an organization. This has been driven largely by the falling prices of laser printers and their print speeds increasing to more than 50 pages per minute. This necessitates a comprehensive solution to ensure that the print environment is being managed in a highly efficient manner.

Tonernow will be offering attendees of LegalTech New York a complimentary assessment of their firm’s print environment including an asset management report, device utilization and print volume allocation analysis.

About Tonernow

Tonernow provides toner supplies for printers, copiers and Fax machines, printer support programs as well as a complete Print Management Solution. As a single point of contact Tonernow reduces repair costs, transaction costs, and IT support requirements while eliminating delivery costs and inventory carrying costs. Tonernow’s total cost of ownership model enables clients to pinpoint exactly how much it costs them to produce a document within their print environment. HP LaserJet P1006 ? Bare Bones Personal Laser Printer

printer management
by romanlily

The HP LaserJet P1006 shows all the signs of being an inkjet printer; affordability, small size, and stripped down features, yet operates using laser technology. With a price tag of just over a hundred dollars, this bare bones unit makes it possible to bring the power of laser printing home.

Operating at a decent print speed of up to 16 pages per minute, the HP LaserJet P1006 is at least competitive in the market of desktop personal printers, but its first page out time of only 9 seconds is really what makes it stand out against its inkjet rivals. With a first page printed in less than ten seconds, single page projects will no longer be a cause for concern regarding user down time spent waiting.

The HP LaserJet P1006′s print quality is locked at 600 x 600 dots per inch, but a resolution enhancement mode allows the unit to execute a 1200 dot per inch equivalent print quality for finer looking text and graphics. The unit’s duty cycle is only 5,000 pages per month maximum, which is severely limiting to those wishing for office level, high paper output. HP’s recommendation of only 250 to 1,500 pages per month for optimal performance and lifespan is even more crippling to those with heavy work demands, and the unit should strictly be considered for light duty use.

Standard on board random access memory included is only 8 MBs, which should be enough when dealing with text documents or minimal amounts of imagery, but complex print projects such as full page black and white photos or mixed text and imagery may suffer a degree of slowdown, and, sadly, the HP LaserJet P1006′s memory is not expandable whatsoever, but the unit’s 266 MHz processor should help keep things moving along somewhat.

Host based printing means that much of the processing is done on the user’s connected PC as opposed to internally within the device. This allows for more affordable hardware, and faster print times on minimalistic printers such as the HP LaserJet P1006. The unit’s paper handling abilities can at least be called decent as well.

With a single 150 sheet paper tray that is non expandable, the HP LaserJet P1006 remains small in both physical size and price, yet the printer manages to squeeze in a 10 sheet priority feed slot as well for special media types such as transparencies, card stock, custom letterhead, envelopes, and index cards. A single standard output tray good for 100 sheets is also incorporated into the hardware, and is also not expandable.

The HP LaserJet P1006′s weight of just over ten pounds (10.4 lbs) and footprint of 13.7 in x 8.8 in x 7.6 in (W x D x H) make it extremely manageable and compact, allowing purchasers with space limitations the opportunity to get their hands on laser technology. A single high speed USB port is the only connectivity option that the HP LaserJet P1006 offers, and should be plenty for this minimalistic monochrome laser device designed for desktop use.
