01 Communique Adds Support for Remote Viewing and Control of a PC’s Desktop from Pocket PC Devices

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) October 16, 2005

01 Communique Laboratory Inc. (TSX: ONE – http://www.01com.com) announced a new release of its remote access service, I’m InTouch. The updated Version 5.0 adds further remote access flexibility and incorporates new features to enhance the user experience. Windows Mobile based Pocket PCs with an Internet connection can now be used by mobile professionals and IT managers to take full desktop control of their distant PC. Real-time control provides users with secure access to all of the information and tools they need to remain productive, regardless of where they may be.

Pocket PC users securely login to their PC running the I’m InTouch service using an Internet browser, and can use their proprietary business applications, check and send email and access their networks. 128 bit end-to-end encryption is used within I’m InTouch to ensure the protection of all data. Users have the ability to manage the presentation of their PC’s desktop on their Pocket PC with features such as horizontal or landscape viewing modes and scaling preferences to view a portion or all of the desktop. No additional software is required to be configured on the Pocket PC. This level of access eliminates the traditional shortcomings of users having to synchronize data between their PC and Pocket PC and the inevitable situation of a file that is suddenly needed being out of reach, back at the office. “With the continued roll-out of broadband wireless networks and higher data transfer speeds becoming available around the world, full remote control and navigation of a users desktop from devices such as Pocket PCs is becoming increasingly practical,” says Brian Howden, Vice President of marketing.

Another feature introduced in I’m InTouch Version 5.0 is remote printing. Remote printing gives a user the ability to print any document on their remote computer to their local printer. This functionality recognizes that some users may not have the business application they are remotely working on installed on their local PC but still wish to be able to print a local hardcopy for review. A practical illustration is someone remotely accessing and working on a business accounting application from the convenience of his or her home computer and wishing to print a report to their home printer. I’m InTouch’s remote print function redirects the print job request given to the business PC to the users local home printer for print processing.

“Version 5.0 represents the natural progression of making our remote access service allow users to feel as if they were sitting at their desktop, regardless of where they are or what device they are using to login. The new features enhance the robustness and flexibility of our service offering,” said Andrew Cheung, President and CEO of 01 Communique. “We continue our commitment to offer a service that is easy to use, secure, reliable and affordable and that gives our users essential business tools to manage their business effectively in this increasingly mobile world. More innovative and powerful features are in the pipeline”.

Franklin, MA (PRWEB) October 18, 2004

Speedline Technologies, a leading provider of capital equipment for the electronics industry, today introduced its RemoteTech remote diagnostics service. The new offering allows Speedline’s support center experts to remotely diagnose and solve customer’s equipment and application problems.

“This innovative new service enables customers to tap into our vast process expertise from anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Mike Montoya, technical operations manager, Speedline Technologies. “As the recognized leader in electronics process knowledge, this capability is a natural extension of our commitment to maximize production uptime, improve productivity, and reduce cost of ownership.”

With the RemoteTech remote diagnostics utility, customers receive improved troubleshooting and problem solving over the Internet and telephone. This capability minimizes field service visits, cuts mean time to repair, lowers maintenance costs, and reduces staff technical training.

“Speedline experts can quickly view equipment operating conditions, diagnose the problem, and recommend a solution using this remote diagnostic tool,” said Montoya.

The highly secure service allows Speedline to access equipment recipe files and error logs and facilitates the uploading of software upgrades directly to the customer’s machine.

“RemoteTech is firewall friendly,” he said. “The customer is the gate keeper and is always in control. We cannot pull or push data to their equipment without their permission. The customer controls all access to the machines for complete control over the RemoteTech connection.”

RemoteTech diagnostic services are available for most of Speedline’s products currently in production. The customer’s equipment must have an Ethernet card or modem, be connected to the Internet, and utilize the Microsoft Windows® operating system. The services will be offered free of charge during the equipment’s warranty period and will be included as a standard feature in Speedline’s Protection Plus service contract. It also can be purchased on a per-machine basis.

Office Technology Magazine Outlines the Benefits of Fully-Hosted Managed Print Services

Calgary, Alberta (PRWEB) December 1, 2008

In hard economic times and in a highly competitive and difficult market, it is more important than ever for office equipment dealers to differentiate themselves from the pack in order to accumulate customers and ultimately grow their market share.

In the September issue of Office Technology magazine, Jake G. Wang of IDC compares remotely-hosted (ASP model) and self-hosted device management solutions. The article, ‘Captain Your Ship: Navigating Stormy Seas In A Tough Economy,’ explains how the remotely-hosted model can provide dealers with an immediate competitive advantage by allowing them to perform proactive maintenance, automate supplies fulfillment and simplify meter readings.

After analyzing IDC data, Wang concludes that remotely-hosted solutions are preferable to self-hosted solutions, stating that ‘the hardware and IT management required for a locally hosted solution dramatically increases the maintenance and troubleshooting costs and delays and/or complicates the process of getting the latest data and software updates.’

‘New offerings such as Facilities Manager from Print Audit use a zero footprint installation model, allowing dealers to deploy scanning remotely without expensive investments in hardware that needs to be constantly updated and maintained,’ Wang writes. ‘Software and data updates are made in real time and received immediately by the dealer deploying the services, ensuring that the latest features and models are available to the dealer as soon as they are published.’

‘We are pleased to see Print Audit’s Facilities Manager used as an example of how remotely-hosted solutions are revolutionizing the industry,’ said John MacInnes, President and CEO of Print Audit. ‘We develop our innovative solutions based on the unique needs of our dealers and their customers – Facilities Manager was designed to help dealers avoid the issues that can be encountered with self-hosted solutions.’

The article can be viewed in its entirety at the following address: http://www.printaudit.com/downloads/pdf/Office_Technology_Magazine_Captain_Your_Ship.pdf
