Common Printer problems and resolution

troubleshooting printers

Though printers are generally reliable, even the best of printers can prove problematic in most demanding of environments. Let us read as to how things can be sorted out quickly and satisfactorily as far as printers are concerned.

One of the biggest concerns related to use of printers is paper jams. This may happen due to many reasons such as dust accumulating in the printer body, wrong paper type used, or worn roller on the printer. It is important to note here that a jammed page must be removed by pulling it in the direction of the paper path to avoid damage.

Ghosting is the second biggest concerns for printer users. This can be classified as a condition in which the printer provides image prints in a proper manner but a slightly lighter copy of the image is also printed elsewhere. To get rid of ghosting, all you need to do is to check the power outlet that is supplying power to the printer. If this does not work, you can check life of drum or imaging kit.

Error message (50.4 error message) can also be a cause of concern for most users. This error message denotes that there is something with the power supply. It is worth noting here that laser printers should never be plugged into a UPS as that can lead to UPS damage. For getting rid of the error message, all you need to do is to disconnect the laser printer from UPS and plug it, in a direct manner, into a wall outlet.

In addition to all these common printer problems and resolutions, you may experience some other errors and it is highly recommended that specialized assistance is sought so that things do not go from bad to worse.

If you are still not able to troubleshoot common printer problems, it is recommended that you opt for PC support service from a professional computer troubleshooting service provider. This will help your printer work normally and the best part is that these computer support services are accessible and affordable at the same time. If that was not all, you can even ask for customizable computer support services to get things sorted out quickly.

If printer problems occur at odd times or you do not want to wait for the PC technician to visit your home or office, you can even opt for remote technical support. You can find information about remote technical support providers by going online. Services offered by these providers can be availed at any time of the day or night and are affordable to say the least.

All in all, a high sense of care and diligence is required for proper functioning of all gadgets and the printer is no exception. We hope that this small guide to common printing problems will help you in diagnosing and fixing printer problem quickly.

Troubleshooting Common Dell Printer Problems with Ease

It happens to each and every one of us.  Whenever we are rushing to complete a project for school or a report for work, somehow our printers just seem to fail on the last minute.  No printer model is free from this, not even Dell printers.  Having to troubleshoot your Dell printer may be the last thing on your mind when you are rushing to meet a deadline.  But there is no reason to panic.  Many of the common problems Dell users face are actually very easy to fix and would only take a few minutes.  Here are four of the most common problems that Dell printer users commonly face and how to fix them.

Paper Jams

In your rush to print out your report or project, many times we find ourselves merely shoving the paper into the paper feed.  When you have opened a new ream of bond paper, the paper tends to stick to each other causing your paper to jam while printing.  Another reason for paper jams to occur is when the paper fed is not smooth.  When this happens, stop the printing session and then slowly pull the jammed paper from the printer.  Make sure that you are able to remove the entire paper jam in your printer.  If it tears, turn off your printer and then carefully remove any remaining paper pieces

Poor Printing Quality

If you notice that there are lines on the printout, or there is nothing printed on the paper, this could mean that your printer nozzle is clogged up with dried ink.  To remove the white lines from the printout, run the clean option in your printer and then test the printout first before proceeding.  If there is nothing printed on the paper, get a cotton swab and moisten this with alcohol.  Run the cotton swab carefully under the printer nozzle to loosen out all the dried ink that has been clogged up in the nozzle.

Paper Feed

Another common problem faced by Dell printer users is having problems when the paper is fed into the printer.  This would result to your printout to become lopsided.  This is commonly brought about by something blocking the rollers that feed the paper into the printer.  Inspect the printer and free it from any blockage such as torn up paper resulting from a paper jam.

Ink Cartridges Not Recognized

In order to save up on money, some Dell printer users would have their ink cartridges refilled rather than buying new cartridges.  Unfortunately, most Dell printers come with a program that would allow you to check the ink status in your printer ink cartridges.  While this can be useful to most Dell printer users, the downside of this is that once the program recognizes the ink cartridge is empty, it can no longer be used even when it is refilled.  One way to prevent this from happening is to have your ink cartridge refilled once the program advises you that the ink level in the cartridge is low.  This way you can deceive the program into allowing you to use your refilled ink cartridge.

Most Common Kodak Printer and Kodak Ink Cartridge Problems and Troubleshooting

Kodak printers are a good option if you are going to buy a printer. It could be one of the options you should definitely consider. However, like all other printer models even Kodak printers are prone to some common printer, as well as, cartridge problems. Troubleshooting these problems is fairly easy.

Here is a list of problems that you might face and we have also offered their solutions.

The Power LED shows no Illumination; the Printer does not power On

This is a common enough problem. The possible cause of this occurrence could be that the cables and cords are not connected as securely as they must be. You must make sure that the cords are connected in accordance with the instructions. Another reason for this could be the fact that the printer power is not ‘on’. You might just have turned the switch in the ‘I’ position.

The Printing Process is Slow

Another common problem and the culprit in this case might be the size of the image file. This could take up a lot of time for the printer to process the PostScript file. Thus, the only solution in this case is to show some patience. At times, the slow printing process is a result of the printer getting warm. The best thing to do in such a case would be to turn off the printer and allow it to cool down. Also, you could think about changing the printer location and shifting it to a cooler location.

No Action Taken When Job is Sent

The possible solution to this problem could be to check and recheck whether the job is actually being processed or not. Moreover, you must check whether you have set the printer in the correct mode for printing. You must use the Raster Mode while using the export module and all other types of printing can be done by choosing the PostScript mode.

The Processing is Complete, No Print

This is another common problem that affects the Kodak Printer. This is a Kodak ink cartridge related problem and not a general printer problem. All you need to do is clean the head of the printer ink cartridges. Accumulated dust or dried color might prevent the printing process from taking place; hence you must clean the head of the cartridges. All Kodak printers come with a set of tools that not only clean the cartridge heads but align them as well.

Printer’s Not Working after Cartridge Change

Once the ink in the cartridge is finished, you either need to change the cartridges or get them refilled with ink. Whatever, the case maybe, you will have to take the cartridges out of the printer and put them back in place. Some times, you will find that the printer does not print, even though the cartridge ink is full. The problem could be sorted out by checking if the cartridges are securely in place. Secure it, and the printer is sure to start working.

Most Common Printer Reset Problems

troubleshooting printers
by theunquietlibrary

Printers are one of the most commonly used electronic gadgets. Most of the work done these days is through electronic media. However, when people need hard copies of documents, and they need it quite often, they use printers to print them. As a result, printers are very much in demand in homes and offices. The most used printers are the shared printers in offices and they continuously spew out page after page, executing print commands from different people in different departments. As a result, it is essential that printers remain hale and hearty.

Sometimes, the printers just give up working and it is time to fix them. There are various ways to troubleshoot the printers and most of the common ailments can be fixed using the instruction manual and the printer maintenance kit. If nothing is working, a service call can be made and some technician from the manufacturers’ side will come and fix up the printer. For some of the common ailments, the basic troubleshooting involves resetting the printer. Resetting can be done with the printer memory, password, spooler and settings.

Most of the common problems associated with printer memory, password, spooler and settings can be resolved by resetting the printer. For most of the different resetting processes, the printer needs to be turned off. The owner manuals should detail about the process. Hence, before doing anything else, it is recommended that you go through the owner manual. In most of the cases, the solution will be given there. In case the solution is not available in the owner manual, then the next best step is to visit the manufacturer’s website and check out the troubleshooting steps given there. By checking the owner manual and/or the website, you will be able to save a lot on money, time and frustration.

Of course, if nothing works, then the best thing to do is to call up the helpline. Most of the printer helpline people are adept enough to take you through the resetting process while you are on the call with them. Resetting is relatively easy and if you follow the simple steps, there should be no problem at all. If that also doesn’t work (which I believe will not be the case), then the last resort is to ask for professional help. You can put in the request through the helpline and they will arrange to send someone. However, you may have to dish out a considerable sum of money for the technician to come in and reset the printer.

As we have been iterating again and again, resetting a printer is no big deal and anyone with a basic knowledge of printers can do it. All you need to do is follow some simple steps and get it done. Before you call the helpline, you may also want to employ one of your colleagues or neighbors to get the job done. You will save a load of time and money if you ask them to help.
