The moment a machine sees the USB driver and programs, it will NOT connect via lan. Microsoft support nothing for direct network printing. Uninstall ALL the software. Then restart the machine and run ccleaner to make sure there are no left-over entries. Restart again and run the installer as NETWORK only.

Replacing the toner cartridge was a good first step, as that can cause that problem. Too bad it didn't work.

There are basically two other main things that can be causing that, that I've actually seen on printers before, with a possible third.

1) The laser scanner exit window is blocked. There is usually a shutter that covers the laser scanner unit exit window that blocks the laser from accidentally being allowed to exit without the toner cartridge in place. There is a mechanism that moves the shutter out of the way when the cartridge is installed or when the cover is closed. I don't know which method this printer uses without looking at it. Possibly, somehow the shutter is not opening and allowing the laser to hit the toner cartridge. You'd have to check the mechanism for operation. The laser is used to discharge the white areas of print on the drum, and if it doesn't hit the drum, the full charge is left and prints black. (Some toner cartridges actually have a shark-like fin on them to open the shutter, and if they break off....)

2) The other possibility is the electrical ground contact on the printer is not making proper contact with the toner/drum cartridge ground contact. The ground allows the high voltage drum charge to bleed off when the laser hits the drum to create the white print areas. This is something that is very hard to determine without taking the printer partially apart to view the actual contact to see if it's working properly or not. Most techs won't know what to look for. I've taught several how and what to look for on some specific printers, but I don't know what this one looks like without looking at it myself at least once.

3) The possible third cause would be a bad high voltage power supply, but I don't think that this is it, but still a possibility.

If the printer is still under warranty, call HP and have a tech come out and fix it, or replace it, before the warranty expires, otherwise you'll have to try to get it fixed by a hopefully trained & certified HP tech out of warranty.

Best of luck.

since there was nothing personal on this why does it matter?
oh you mean you have been using the work computer for something other then work............

as answered already there is NO expectation of privacy in the workplace and anything on a work computer is owned by the employer and they have free and unrestricted access to it,
if you have downloaded company files onto this thumb dive and taken then home you very well may have violated the companies policy concerning proprietary information and could be charged with a criminal offense.

the question is not;
is it legal for the manager to do what he/she did but rather if you may be charged with a criminal offense or terminated for a policy violation.

Common sense dictates that if you need to hide something from your boss, do not give him access to it. One other rule most employees forget is that every equipment in the office is considered company property. Anything inside said office equipment should ideally be accessed by management.

he cannot and should not ethically, but then again, before you can sue legally, you have to prove that his action has damaged you finanically or emotionally, which you can quantify. His action is similar to opening your office desk drawer to look at your personal paper inside it or putting your personal paper on your desk, etc. In short, his actiton was bad, but what was your quantified damage?

It could be a couple of reasons.

1: Bad toner
2: Bad sensor
3: Used toner cartridges sometimes don't register as full
4: Other issues that aren't easily listed

Easiest test is the weight check on the cartridge itself. Does it feel heavier than what you took out? If not, you got an empty one. If it does, then you have a bigger issue and might need a tech to come look at it.
