Troubleshooting Common Dell Printer Problems with Ease

It happens to each and every one of us.  Whenever we are rushing to complete a project for school or a report for work, somehow our printers just seem to fail on the last minute.  No printer model is free from this, not even Dell printers.  Having to troubleshoot your Dell printer may be the last thing on your mind when you are rushing to meet a deadline.  But there is no reason to panic.  Many of the common problems Dell users face are actually very easy to fix and would only take a few minutes.  Here are four of the most common problems that Dell printer users commonly face and how to fix them.

Paper Jams

In your rush to print out your report or project, many times we find ourselves merely shoving the paper into the paper feed.  When you have opened a new ream of bond paper, the paper tends to stick to each other causing your paper to jam while printing.  Another reason for paper jams to occur is when the paper fed is not smooth.  When this happens, stop the printing session and then slowly pull the jammed paper from the printer.  Make sure that you are able to remove the entire paper jam in your printer.  If it tears, turn off your printer and then carefully remove any remaining paper pieces

Poor Printing Quality

If you notice that there are lines on the printout, or there is nothing printed on the paper, this could mean that your printer nozzle is clogged up with dried ink.  To remove the white lines from the printout, run the clean option in your printer and then test the printout first before proceeding.  If there is nothing printed on the paper, get a cotton swab and moisten this with alcohol.  Run the cotton swab carefully under the printer nozzle to loosen out all the dried ink that has been clogged up in the nozzle.

Paper Feed

Another common problem faced by Dell printer users is having problems when the paper is fed into the printer.  This would result to your printout to become lopsided.  This is commonly brought about by something blocking the rollers that feed the paper into the printer.  Inspect the printer and free it from any blockage such as torn up paper resulting from a paper jam.

Ink Cartridges Not Recognized

In order to save up on money, some Dell printer users would have their ink cartridges refilled rather than buying new cartridges.  Unfortunately, most Dell printers come with a program that would allow you to check the ink status in your printer ink cartridges.  While this can be useful to most Dell printer users, the downside of this is that once the program recognizes the ink cartridge is empty, it can no longer be used even when it is refilled.  One way to prevent this from happening is to have your ink cartridge refilled once the program advises you that the ink level in the cartridge is low.  This way you can deceive the program into allowing you to use your refilled ink cartridge.

Most Common Dell Printer and Dell Ink Cartridge Problems and Troubleshooting

Imagine a scenario wherein, you want to print an important document and your printer gives out on you. This is a common occurrence even in Dell printers and Dell Ink cartridges. As can be imagined, even the most reliable of printers are prone to these problems as is illustrated in the case of common Dell printer and ink cartridges problems. The good news is that you don’t have to be a technical expert to solve these problems. Troubleshooting Dell printer problems is fairly easy.

Here are a few examples of Dell printer and printer ink cartridge problems and their troubleshooting.

No Apparent Jam, but Paper is Stuck

A confusing but common problem when it comes to Dell printers! Don’t think too hard when it comes to trouble shooting this bit of problem. The first thing to do is locate that offending bit of paper and remove it. How do you remove it? Simple! Just pull it out! At times, however, there is a chance that you won’t be able to locate the paper jam. This is when you should realize that there might be no paper stuck in the printer, but the rollers in the printer might be giving you trouble. Due to the action of the printer, the rollers might come loose. You could fix this problem by tightening them up.

Failure to Print

If you have bought multi-functional Dell printers then this particular problem might comes as a surprise to you. Not in the least because the machine does not print. The surprise is due to the fact because all other functionalities work! Don’t worry. Your printer has not developed some major snag. The only thing wrong with the printer in such a case would be a clogging of the printer ink cartridges. This could be sorted out by initiating the cleaning process. Moreover, you could also rub the cartridge head with a cotton swab and alcohol. Remove the dried up your ink from the Dell ink cartridge in order to let the wet ink flow more freely.

Paper Feed Problem

There are some Dell printers that will give you some paper feeding problems. One of the manifestations of this problem could be the fact that the Dell printer will only take in the paper from one side. The paper is pulled in from one side only, and the other side remains still. This leads to paper jams. Once again this problem is easy to trouble shoot. The problem is that there might be a paper that is blocking the printing path. You need to turn off the printer, unplug it, and shake it. Anything that should not be inside the printer will come out.

No Printing Process – Cartridge Not Recognized

A common problem, once again! Don’t fret as the problem is as simple as not having refilled the cartridge quickly enough. The problem is that many customers these days choose not to replace the empty cartridges with new Dell ink cartridges but choose to refill it instead. The company thus loses quite a bit of money and makes it difficult for user to use refilled cartridges. The trick is to refill the printer ink cartridge as soon as you are notified of the low ink status.

Dell Laser Printer 1720Dn – Duplex Networking Monochrome Device

With double sided printing capabilities via built in duplexing, and vast connectivity options thanks to an on board 10/100 Base T Ethernet card, the Dell Laser Printer 1720dn would serve as a powerful monochrome laser device suitable for any sized business. With a simple, black and grey design scheme, the physical attributes of this powerful printer conceal, in a small package of 15.59″ x 13.58″ by 10.0″ (W x D x H), a wide range of extensive features.

Not only does the Dell Laser Printer 1720dn include built in networking capabilities, an optional Dell Wireless Printer Adapter 3300 enables wireless capabilities to allow the unit easy connect ability with not only desktop computers, but laptops as well. Other connection options include an IEEE 1284-B compliant parallel port and a standard USB 2.0 port, though the cables themselves are not included.

Paper handling options are above average, with a maximum output tray offering a 150 sheet capacity, along with a 250 sheet primary input drawer. An additional 550 sheet drawer available for separate purchase brings the Dell Laser Printer 1720dn’s potential paper capacity up to 800 total sheets when output demands are at a high and constant paper refills are not an option.

An exceptional print resolution of up to 1200 x 1200 dots per inch is selectable when dealing with imagery such as graphics or business charts, and lower resolution settings are selectable as well for obtaining maximum print speed. The built in 366 MHz processor also keeps projects moving along quickly and smoothly without additional paper spooling times and, along with the 32 MBs of RAM, even detailed workloads are obtainable without incident.

A hefty duty cycle of 25,000 pages per month maximum means that not only can the Dell Laser Printer 1720dn function effectively; it can do it under constant pressure. Along with Dell’s quality hardware, the company also includes a 12 month standard warranty, as well as the unmatched support of Dell’s 24 hour technical support team and on site repair service, making their products one of the safest purchases on the market with very little increase in overall cost of ownership.

The Dell Laser Printer 1720dn sports a curb weight of a considerably petite 25 pounds, a low figure when figuring the exceptional page output. Dell also includes one of the best software support packages on the market, including an amazing Dell Open Manage Printer Manager system that helps to serve a network client list of over fifty users with industrial grade quality.

Also part of the package is the Dell Printer Web Tool which can install printers onto a network via a comprehensive setup system. A Dell Toner Management System automatically e mails users directly from the device itself regarding toner alerts, as well as other hardware problems. Printer language support is also supreme with not only HP PCL 5 and 6 support, but industry standard PostScript level 3 emulation as well.

The Dell Laser Printer 1720dn offers top of the line performance at a reasonable price when considering the product support behind it, and would be an excellent buy for the cautious consumer.
