HP LaserJet 4050n ? Network Ready Device with Envelope Feeder

Boasting both networking capabilities and a high monthly duty cycle, as well as rarely seen features such as a very high capacity envelope feeder, the HP LaserJet 4050n offers unique solutions for small to medium sized offices in need of printing output in high volume on media types other than your standard letter and legal sizes.

With a 75 envelope feeder built in to the HP LaserJet 4050n, as well as an advertised maximum monthly duty cycle of 65,000 printed pages, offices or home businesses dealing with a large amount of snail mail will be in envelope heaven. Standard paper handling capacities are decent as well with the device, totaling 600 sheets worth of storage capacity composed of a single 500 sheet tray along with a 100 sheet priority slot.

Thanks to the help of ceramic technology, the HP LaserJet 4050n offers an Instant On feature which means zero warm up time, and a first page out time of only 13 seconds. Regular print speeds run at up to 17 pages per minute onto letter sized paper, placing the unit somewhere in the middle of its class. It is, however, high up there concerning raw size.

With a footprint of 19 in x 15 in x 14 in (W x D x H), the HP LaserJet 4050n stands out as a heavier model. This is mostly due to its age, as current printers on the market run much sleeker, and come as light as half this unit’s weight of 43 lbs.

Standard memory included is a decent 8 MBs, which should keep all text document related projects running along optimally. However, for complex projects, internal DIMM slots make memory upgrades up to 192 MBs possible for minimal slowdown. Also upgradable is the unit’s paper storage capacity, with a single 500 sheet tray available for purchase separately that brings the units potential paper capacity up to an impressive 1,100 sheets total. Output capacity is locked at 300 sheets, with 250 sheets up top, and 50 in the rear.

With a rear output tray, a straight through paper path option is made possible. This is especially useful for the envelope users who don’t wish to crease or bend their product. An optional hard disk worth 3.2 GBs is a great choice when permanent, on board storage is required for those who print the same thing often, or are transporting the device to a new location.

Built in wired Ethernet capabilities make the HP LaserJet 4050n network ready, and its sturdy build and monthly duty cycle make it perfect as a backup printer for larger offices due to its abilities for mass output. Unfortunately, though the unit is network ready, it is equipped only with Parallel and serial ports for single computer connectivity. No USB port is incorporated into the hardware whatsoever.

While the HP LaserJet 4050n is a fairly standard device on many fronts, its envelope feeder makes it a great option as a special media type only workgroup unit for offices that have a frequent demand for abnormal paper sizes.

Envelope Printing Tips

There is a good reason that envelope printing does not get a great deal of thought.  With e-mail and voicemail replacing most printed correspondence, envelopes are not as important as they were a decade or two ago.  But, like it or not, we still have to send written correspondence to customers, employees, and others.  With the cost for envelope printing dropping dramatically in recent years, it’s worth taking a little bit of time to think through the following tips for sending your envelope printing project to the presses.

Use color
Full color envelope printing is important for engaging your customers and making your logo and other branding information stand out.  The cost for full color is very reasonable with the advent of digital printing.

Include your logo
Make sure to include your logo on the front of your envelope printing.  This helps your customer or employee quickly recognize who sent the letter.  With as much junk mail as we all receive, it is important to help people identify important mail.  The best way to do that is to include your logo on the front.

Return address
Don’t forget the return address.  It’s worth taking the time to make sure that the return address you include is up-to-date and accurate for any returned mail you want to receive.  Some businesses only put their P.O. Box address and find out later that the post office has had to discard mail because of an overflow.

Order bulk
The easiest way to make envelope printing affordable is to order bulk.  Doubling your order will likely only see a 10-20% increase in cost.  The more you order, the better deal you can get.  If you need more than 3000 envelopes – which is reasonable for even medium-sized companies – your costs should be around 10¢ per envelope.

Designing Your Envelope Printing

Designing your greeting cards that you’re going to give away to friends and loved ones is such an exciting and rewarding thing to do. And while you’re at it, why not include your custom envelopes as well? You can showcase your greeting card in a design that will match that of your envelope printing. In addition to having a consistent look inside and out, your decorated envelope also ensures that whatever is inside would be read right away when it arrives in the mail.

Here are simple yet effective tips that can make your envelope printing more exciting to your recipients:

Use a single focal point and message. This is especially true with a simple design for your cards or notes. Your envelope should be imprinted with a single attractive image to replicate the design inside. By providing one image that your recipients can focus on, you are already giving an idea of what to expect inside your custom envelopes. Your recipient would not also have a hard time understanding your message.

Use envelopes with stamped corners. Or one with an overall background design. This can be applied to cards that have fancy designs and embellished images. Again, the design in your envelope would be consistent with that of the greeting card or postcard inside.

Use stamps to imprint the recipients’ name in bright colors. Not only should you use a unique font, also apply different vibrant as well as brilliant shades to your recipient’s name to attract interest. Color actually provides excitement and anticipation of what they can expect to have when they open your envelope.

Stamp different themes on your envelopes. Thinking of sending a floral card, then stamp your envelopes with a wildflower design. What about an environmentally designed card and envelope? Whatever it is, your mail would benefit from the interest it would generate if you apply a theme that would be carried both by your envelope and the greeting card inside it.

Use a contemporary design. Imprint diagonal designs to match that of your greeting card or notepad. A contemporary design is very appropriate to the times, especially if the recipient is the kind of person who goes for fashionable and up-to-date fashion.

Use shadow stamping. It can be a background to your envelope printing as well as your greeting card or notepad. One graphic designer suggests that you repeat the shadow stamp at the front of the envelope where you can find the name and address. Then apply a background around the information with additional images found inside the envelope.

Use letter sets. Letter sets such as “To” and “From” can add to the fancy and unique design of your envelope printing.

By designing your custom envelopes, you are providing your recipients with something to look forward to and get excited with that they can’t wait to see what’s inside.

Envelope Printing ? Type of Flaps & Closure Complement To Your Envelopes

An envelope printing project is about much more than just selection of sizes and paper quality. There are much more important aspects of these business stationeries that demand closer looks and considering myriad options. Flaps and closures are two important areas that add to the formation of the envelopes. The closures you want must be dependant upon how you want to protect your documents and how you want to present it, whether open or closed. Depending upon how you want to seal your mailings, you can decide whether you want a

Standard seal is the seal that is required to be moistened with gums to remain stuck and closed.

Self-closing indicates to closing the document by ripping off the plastic backing that exposes a synthetic, permanent gum. This gum in self-closing envelopes prevents hassles of using tongue or messes of using sponge. The permanent gum protects contents inside tight for a long time or a long journey.

Reusable closing is ideal for envelope that is intended for interoffice or driver logs and etc. Reusable closure features clasps, fancy button and string to ensure safety of documents against getting torn.

No adhesive or un-gummed closing is perfect for the printing project which is not needed to be closed or does not require sealing. In this way, you can save on closing or gumming costs and forgo the gum. If you are printing large reusable envelope or keeping small items, consider no-gumming option for your printing project.

Similarly, you may consider an open end or an open end flap or a booklet catalogue. The open end or catalogue options have flap at the short end forming a portrait orientation. On the other hand, if your envelope printing project needs a landscape orientation, consider an open side or booklet flap design where the flap is kept at the long end. After you have made up your mind on the right kind of flaps or closing according to the one you are going to print – you are all set and get going for print.

Corporate Theme Integration with Envelope Printing

Some management staff do not realize the value of company envelope printing for internal and external corporate marketing. Even though envelopes seem mundane, they are still crucial tools that can improve communications inside an office or organization, while helping with any kind of outside marketing campaign. That is why it is important to integrate your corporate theme in your custom envelope printing to gain that advantage in internal and external company marketing.

There are several key benefits in business when you integrate your corporate theme in your business envelopes:

Consistent theme and message: By using your corporate theme in your custom envelopes you can maintain a nice and consistent theme throughout all your paper work and printed projects. A working and extensively used theme can be the working standard that everyone can use. This should make it easy for most of your employees to integrate all their work related communiqué as essentially part of the company standard. This is especially useful if they plan on using the colored business envelopes for their mails to clients, consumers and other important business contacts. They can all use a consistent theme giving all their messages the power and authority of the company.

Company or Brand Identification: Now, on the receiver-side of the mails, custom business envelopes can be the key for people to immediately identify or recognize a mail as something from a certain company or firm. If the envelope designs have an integrated theme with the corporate colors, people can quickly relate the theme to the company and the mail. This causes people to distinctly remember a company’s unique character through the mail and the corporate theme that it carries. Basically the company can be identified by the theme in the envelope with all the imagery and subtle marketing message that it entails.

Communication security: Also, with your envelopes sporting the corporate colors, you can also enhance the security of your mails. If you use special security tags, inks or holograms within the corporate envelope design, you can send your mails in a nice secured custom envelope to anyone and people will recognize immediately its authenticity just by looking at the envelope. You can send vital mails through this method assuring yourself that the mail will be trusted by the one who receives it.

Aesthetics and Morale: Lastly, as a side note, integrating your corporate theme into your envelopes can just simply look good. There is nothing like having custom envelopes printed and using them in all your mail materials. There is a certain pride involved for the company in using such a beautiful piece of corporate “Art”. So on a psychological or morale point of view; business envelopes can make you feel proud of the company. As long as you print those nice custom envelopes people can take pride in all the things that they send.

Indeed, there are a lot of advantages to using custom envelopes for your business. Moreover, integrating the design of your envelopes with the corporate theme can really have lots of beneficial effects to different aspects of the business process. So it appears that envelope printing can be a nice investment for any company, and you should consider it too for your own business.
