I have an HP Color LaserJet 2600n that I bought from a friend and I only have the black and white cartridge. Is there a way to print in black and white only if I only have the one cartridge? I tried the override for an empty cartridge, but it’s still prompting me to install the other cartridges. Is there way to fool the printer so it thinks all of the cartridges are there?

No, there is not a way to fool the printer. You have to install the color cartridges.

Improving drastically in print speed over its predecessor, the HP LaserJet 1200, HP’s next in the series of monochrome printing devices, the HP LaserJet 1300 is a full five pages per minute faster. The 1300 also improves memory, and adds wireless networkability for an easy setup with an office network and, other than that, has most of the same powerful hardware that the 1200 had.

As a black and white laser printer in an affordable price bracket, the HP LaserJet 1300′s advertised 20 pages per minute places it with some of the better printer models as far as speed. On top of this, HP is known for having actual speed statistics that reach reasonably close to what it says on the box.

With a footprint of 16.3 inches (W) by 19.1 inches (D), the HP LaserJet 1300 is actually quite large for a printer of its caliber. This is mainly because of the fact that its paper tray protrudes from the front of the unit, as opposed to being tucked underneath the printer. Its height is very manageable, however, at only 9.5 inches, and its weight of 19 pounds is perfectly acceptable.

The HP LaserJet 1300 comes equipped with both USB and Parallel ports, and is certified for Windows Vista, as well as other Windows and Mac operating systems. Its maximum resolution is very high for a black and white printer, running at up to 1200 x 1200 dots per inch. With a maximum monthly duty cycle of 10,000 total pages and a toner cartridge printhead duty cycle of 2,500 pages, the HP LaserJet 1300 can function under heavy usage conditions with minimal maintenance. Paper handling abilities also run high with the unit, with a standard 250 sheet tray expandable with an additional 250 sheets, and an auto loading 10 sheet multimedia slot for odd paper sizes and types such as transparencies, cards, labels, and index cards.

This Energy Star compliant device runs at 320 W when operational, and at a remarkably low 7 W when in sleep or standby modes. HP makes it easy to get started using the product as well, with a software package including HP’s web tool, Web JetAdmin, as well as an easy to use driver and utilities package.

HP LaserJet 4250 ? High Performance Printer with Optional Hard Disk

It’s hard to imagine a problem with overloading the HP LaserJet 4250, with its maximum monthly duty cycle of 200,000 imprinted pages. This medium office sized printer comes in a bulky package, but performs where it counts in almost all areas including expandability. If you’re looking for a device that can not only print at unbelievably fast speeds, while maintaining reliability, this older HP model should be of interest.

A print speed of up to 45 pages per minute makes the HP LaserJet 4250 faster than any home or desktop device and, though the price for this much power is high, it can ultimately save money by cutting down drastically on user downtime. The device’s Instant On technology also helps to keep operations running quickly thanks to a reduction of warm up time to virtually zero, and a first page out time to a mere 8 seconds.

Speeds this fast are only possible by way of a built in 460 MHz processor. Also helping in the effort is a built in 64 MB random access memory chip, which can be further expanded all the way up to 512 MBs using one, or both, of the two open 100 pin DDR DIMM slots internalized within the machine. Two industry standard Compact Flash slots are left open as well for various uses.

An optional 20 GB HP high performance EIO hard disk can also be incorporated into the hardware for permanent or long term storage of frequently used documents and data. Other expandability options include additional paper storage and Jetdirect Fast Ethernet servers, or users have the option of purchasing the pre upgraded version of the device, the HP LaserJet 4250tn, which includes both network capability and an additional 500 sheet paper tray.

As it stands, the HP LaserJet 4250 comes with a stock paper storage capacity of 1,100 total sheets, composed of primary and auxiliary 500 sheet trays, and a 100 sheet priority slot. With various configuration options and high capacity paper trays available for purchase separately, the device’s total potential paper storage runs all the way up to 3,100 sheets.

Output capacity is also expandable to a degree, with its stock 300 sheet maximum (composed of 250 face down and 50 face up spaces) leaving room for either a 500 sheet paper stacker, or a 500 sheet stapler stacker expansion. The only other notable expansion hardware available is the HP LaserJet 75 sheet envelope feeder, which can be a lifesaver when dealing with a large output of custom envelopes.

As the HP LaserJet 4250 is an aging unit, its weight and footprint run high. Dimensions of 16.5 in x 17.8 in x 19.6 in (W x D x H) and weight of a solid 60 pounds make it suitable only for a reasonably sized office. While it is important to remember that the HP LaserJet 4250 base unit is not network ready, it would appear that the only feasible way to obtain the proper use out of the machine would be via multiple users, and the network expansion should definitely be considered.
