Improving drastically in print speed over its predecessor, the HP LaserJet 1200, HP’s next in the series of monochrome printing devices, the HP LaserJet 1300 is a full five pages per minute faster. The 1300 also improves memory, and adds wireless networkability for an easy setup with an office network and, other than that, has most of the same powerful hardware that the 1200 had.

As a black and white laser printer in an affordable price bracket, the HP LaserJet 1300′s advertised 20 pages per minute places it with some of the better printer models as far as speed. On top of this, HP is known for having actual speed statistics that reach reasonably close to what it says on the box.

With a footprint of 16.3 inches (W) by 19.1 inches (D), the HP LaserJet 1300 is actually quite large for a printer of its caliber. This is mainly because of the fact that its paper tray protrudes from the front of the unit, as opposed to being tucked underneath the printer. Its height is very manageable, however, at only 9.5 inches, and its weight of 19 pounds is perfectly acceptable.

The HP LaserJet 1300 comes equipped with both USB and Parallel ports, and is certified for Windows Vista, as well as other Windows and Mac operating systems. Its maximum resolution is very high for a black and white printer, running at up to 1200 x 1200 dots per inch. HP also enhances the image resolution of the printer via HP FastRes 1200 technology for more accuracy and quality.

A powerful Motorola ColdFire 133 MHz processor comes standard with the hardware to ensure speedy delivery of large print jobs, and 16 MBs of standard RAM should also be plenty for most light to medium end jobs, but if more memory is required, the HP LaserJet 1300 includes an open SDRAM 100 pin DIMM slot for memory expansion up to a total of 80 MBs maximum.

With a maximum monthly duty cycle of 10,000 total pages and a toner cartridge printhead duty cycle of 2,500 pages, the HP LaserJet 1300 can function under heavy usage conditions with minimal maintenance. Paper handling abilities also run high with the unit, with a standard 250 sheet tray expandable with an additional 250 sheets, and an auto loading 10 sheet multimedia slot for odd paper sizes and types such as transparencies, cards, labels, and index cards.

This Energy Star compliant device runs at 320 W when operational, and at a remarkably low 7 W when in sleep or standby modes. HP makes it easy to get started using the product as well, with a software package including HP’s web tool, Web JetAdmin, as well as an easy to use driver and utilities package.

Also included in box is a startup toner cartridge, and HP’s comprehensive warranty and replacement package that includes a year of web and internet based technical support, as well as a limited exchange policy, meaning with the HP LaserJet 1300 printer, HP keeps you in safe hands.

HP LaserJet 4050 ? 75 Envelope Feeding Monochrome Laser

With a small set of expandability options including additional paper storage and a network capable model variation available, along with adequate hardware statistics, the HP LaserJet 4050 holds is ground as a decent HP black and white printer intended for the small to medium sized workgroup.

Unique technology such as a straight through paper path option and a ceramic fuser allow for special versatility and a fast warm up speed that is virtually non existent. With a straight through paper path, thicker media types, such as card stock and transparencies, can pass through the HP LaserJet 4050 with ease quickly, and without the risk of bending. HP’s Instant On ceramic technology brings the device’s first page out time to only 13 seconds, making wait times for single sheet documents almost insignificant.

When dealing with multiple sheets, the HP LaserJet 4050 boasts a print speed of up to 17 pages per minute onto letter sized paper. This is partially due to the help of its on board 133 MHz RISC processor. Its standard input capacity totals 600 sheets comprised of a 500 sheet document tray and a 100 sheet priority feed slot. If additional paper storage proves necessary, a single additional 500 sheet tray is available for purchase separately, bringing the unit’s potential storage capacity it an impressive 1,100 pages.

On top of the standard paper handling options, the HP LaserJet 4050 comes with the very unique feature of a built in 75 sheet envelope feeder. This allows for massive amounts of envelope printing possibilities where other, similar units offer a 10 envelope maximum, or single envelope feed slots.

The HP LaserJet 4050 can handle media weights ranging from 16 lbs up to 53 lbs, making standard index cards compatible with the machine. It also comes with 8 MBs of standard memory, though this is upgradable via open, internal DIMM slots up to a maximum total of 192 MBs for users who require optimum speed when dealing with complex print projects such as mixed text and imagery.

A fairly large footprint of 19 in x 15 in x 14 in and a hefty weight of 43 lbs make the HP LaserJet 4050 one of the larger models in its hardware category, as newer, sleeker models can sometimes carry less than half this weight. It does, however, offer every standard option you would expect in a professional laser model, such as customizable print sizes ranging from 3 x 5 inches up to legal sized 8.5 x 14 inches.

With a maximum monthly duty cycle of up to 65,000 words, the HP LaserJet 4050 offers users the option of putting the device under almost constant abuse, though HP’s recommended monthly usage is much lower. Along with a network version of the model available, the HP LaserJet 4050n, the 4050 standard edition leaves space for an optional 3.2 GB hard drive for permanent storage of a variety of media types and frequently needed data, making it perfect for the user who prints mass quantities of the same thing, and often, especially envelopes.

Hp Laserjet 1012 – Monochrome Personal Laser Printer

The HP LaserJet 1012 is a cost effective, mid level personal laser printer that performs similarly to office grade machines. What the unit sacrifices in speed, it attempts to make up for in affordability and size management, as well as visual appeal.

Though the HP LaserJet 1012 is a stripped down machine with no dedicated LCD screen or multifunctional options, as a laser printer alone it functions quite nicely, and was designed to suit a home or small office well. Its notably small footprint consisting of a depth of 9 inches and a width of 14.6 inches makes the device desktop friendly, and a height of only 8.2 inches means it could easily squeeze anywhere its inkjet counterparts can go.

The model’s weight of exactly 13 pounds also keeps it manageable, and makes frequent relocations possible if necessary, as the HP LaserJet 1012 is not a network ready device.  Its speed is at least average for its category, with up to 14 pages per minute for legal sized paper, and up to 15 pages per minute for letter size. A minimal first page out time of only 8 seconds also helps to keep even single page prints moving along at an acceptable speed. Another time saving feature included with the product is an automatic language switching function which switches printer languages based on the incoming print job.

Resolutions are adjustable to a standard 600 x 600 dots per inch, as well as a high quality 600 x 1200 dots per inch for clearer imagery, charts, and graphs. Lower quality settings are also selectable for optimal print speed, and an EconoMode is available as well to cut down on toner usage.

HP includes a user friendly software package with the HP LaserJet 1012 that not only includes drivers and install programs, but useful tools as well such as a utility for resizing multiple pages to fit onto single pages. A manual duplex mode can then allow for double sided printing, cutting down on paper usage exponentially.

The HP LaserJet 1012 also supports watermark printing, for the hobbyist who requires an artistic touch, or confidential documents with stamped background lettering. Booklet printing is made possible via included software.

With 8 MBs of included RAM, the HP LaserJet 1012 should function smoothly under virtually any workload, regardless of complexity. Paper handling specifications are acceptable as well, with a 150 sheet document tray which has the ability to load up to 20 envelopes automatically. A priority feed slot is also incorporated into the hardware and holds ten sheets, or an additional, single envelope.

An output bin of 125 sheets is designed with large projects in mind, and the HP LaserJet 1012‘s maximum monthly duty cycle of 7,000 imprinted pages means that users can print large quantities of output without hardware problems. While this Energy Star compliant black and white laser printer is certainly not the fastest device on the market, it scores as a well rounded machine at a price appropriate for the personal user or home office.

Dell Laser Printer 1720Dn – Duplex Networking Monochrome Device

With double sided printing capabilities via built in duplexing, and vast connectivity options thanks to an on board 10/100 Base T Ethernet card, the Dell Laser Printer 1720dn would serve as a powerful monochrome laser device suitable for any sized business. With a simple, black and grey design scheme, the physical attributes of this powerful printer conceal, in a small package of 15.59″ x 13.58″ by 10.0″ (W x D x H), a wide range of extensive features.

Not only does the Dell Laser Printer 1720dn include built in networking capabilities, an optional Dell Wireless Printer Adapter 3300 enables wireless capabilities to allow the unit easy connect ability with not only desktop computers, but laptops as well. Other connection options include an IEEE 1284-B compliant parallel port and a standard USB 2.0 port, though the cables themselves are not included.

Paper handling options are above average, with a maximum output tray offering a 150 sheet capacity, along with a 250 sheet primary input drawer. An additional 550 sheet drawer available for separate purchase brings the Dell Laser Printer 1720dn’s potential paper capacity up to 800 total sheets when output demands are at a high and constant paper refills are not an option.

An exceptional print resolution of up to 1200 x 1200 dots per inch is selectable when dealing with imagery such as graphics or business charts, and lower resolution settings are selectable as well for obtaining maximum print speed. The built in 366 MHz processor also keeps projects moving along quickly and smoothly without additional paper spooling times and, along with the 32 MBs of RAM, even detailed workloads are obtainable without incident.

A hefty duty cycle of 25,000 pages per month maximum means that not only can the Dell Laser Printer 1720dn function effectively; it can do it under constant pressure. Along with Dell’s quality hardware, the company also includes a 12 month standard warranty, as well as the unmatched support of Dell’s 24 hour technical support team and on site repair service, making their products one of the safest purchases on the market with very little increase in overall cost of ownership.

The Dell Laser Printer 1720dn sports a curb weight of a considerably petite 25 pounds, a low figure when figuring the exceptional page output. Dell also includes one of the best software support packages on the market, including an amazing Dell Open Manage Printer Manager system that helps to serve a network client list of over fifty users with industrial grade quality.

Also part of the package is the Dell Printer Web Tool which can install printers onto a network via a comprehensive setup system. A Dell Toner Management System automatically e mails users directly from the device itself regarding toner alerts, as well as other hardware problems. Printer language support is also supreme with not only HP PCL 5 and 6 support, but industry standard PostScript level 3 emulation as well.

The Dell Laser Printer 1720dn offers top of the line performance at a reasonable price when considering the product support behind it, and would be an excellent buy for the cautious consumer.
