How do I set up my network to work with a print server?

I have a mac running OS 9 and a couple PC’s. I have them hooked together through a Linksys router. The Mac can connect to the internet, but I have not file shared with any of the PC’s. Is this going to be a problem? Will the Mac be able to print from the server? Do I have to buy a particular print server?

Hp Color Laserjet Cp2025Dn – Duplexing, Network Color Laser Printer

Though the HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn is a seemingly straightforward color laser printer, its simple hardware is beefed up with a few versatile features such as a built in duplexor, along with an impressive set of specifications. With a both a reasonable price tag and footprint alike, the LaserJet CP2025dn stands as a good buy for a business of any size looking to add the power of color laser printing the their hardware set.

While color and black and white print speeds operate at the same rate of 21 pages per minute, start up times vary, but only slightly, with monochrome first page time locked at 17.2 seconds for letter sized paper, and color clocking in not far behind at 17.7 seconds. With speeds above 20 pages per minute, the HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn is not only suitable as a personal or home printer, but as a fully networkable office device as well.

The HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn comes with a built in network card and a Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base TX port for connectivity across an entire business. A high speed USB port is also included for standard, single computer use.

With a total product weight of 52.7 lbs, the HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn is a little on the heavy side, but no more so than similar color laser devices on the market, which tend to run high in the weight category. A footprint of about 16 x 19 inches (W x D) also makes it fairly manageable within a desktop environment, though maximum dimensions can extend up to 16 x 27 inches via fold out trays and accessories. A height of only 12.7 inches is actually very impressing, especially considering the paper capacity.

A 250 sheet input tray should keep paper refill cycles at a decent length, along with the help of a 50 sheet multi purpose tray. An optional 250 sheet tray will increase the HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn’s overall height, but also almost double its paper storage capacity, and should be considered when operating at high volume output via a network. A 150 sheet face down output bin is not expandable, but should be more than enough considering the model’s performance capabilities.

With duplex printing hardware fully concealed within the HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn’s hardware, automatic double sided printing makes professional looking document production easy, and efficient. Two sided printing can potentially reduce paper usage by as much as half, cutting down drastically on overall operating costs for not only standard paper, but types such as bond, brochure, colored, glossy, letterhead, photo, plain, preprinted, pre punched, recycled, rough, transparencies, labels, and envelopes as well.

With an impressively fast 540 MHz processor, large projects should not cause a problem with the HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn, and if the standard 128 MBs of on board memory proves not to suffice via extensive, complex image printing, upgrades totaling up to 384 MBs are available as well. Resolutions run at 600 x 600 dots per inch for color and monochrome alike and, while the HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn isn’t the absolute cheapest color laser on the market, it backs up its cost with decent hardware.

HP LaserJet 4000tn ? Network Printer with Dual 250 Sheet Trays

As an interesting variation on HP’s LaserJet 4000n networking monochrome laser printer model, the HP LaserJet 4000tn comes not with merely an additional paper tray, but with two 250 sheet trays instead of a single 500 sheet tray. Though this may appear to be a lateral adjustment to the model’s hardware, the partitioning off of the paper storage allows for a more versatile machine when dealing with multiple export sizes and paper types.

Most commonly, letter and legal sized paper would be the two paper types selected for usage, and thanks to included HP software, automatic switching from type to type makes varying output length easier than ever. Variations in paper color and weight are also an option, as well as usage of certain special media types, though those with simpler, more consistent print demands would most likely prefer to stick with the HP LaserJet 4000n model with a single, 500 sheet tray.

In addition to the HP LaserJet 4000tn’s standard paper options, all models in the HP LaserJet 4000 series come equipped stock with a 100 sheet multipurpose feeder which can be used for media types such as up to 75 envelopes at a time, transparencies, and custom letterhead, as well as for additional letter and legal sized storage. If still more room is needed for paper, a single 500 sheet additional tray can be added to the device for a total potential paper storage capacity of 1100 sheets.

Print speeds run at a decent level with the HP LaserJet 4000tn, which can put out an advertised 17 pages per minute onto letter sized paper, and up to 16 pages per minute for legal sized. HP also includes their Instant On technology which allows for a warm up time of zero, and a first page out time of 12 seconds. While this discontinued model still doesn’t quite compete with today’s ultra fast work horses available now, it still operates at speeds well enough to keep the unit relevant for some years to come.

With the help of a 100 MHz RISC processor, slowdown due to heavy workloads should be limited and, as the HP LaserJet 4000tn is a network model, it also includes a slight boost in on board memory up to 8 MBs over the core model’s 4 MBs. Additional DIMM slots are included internally within the device for additional memory upgrades up to a maximum of 100 MBs.

Options of HP’s FastRes 1200 for quick, high resolution printing and HP ProRes 1200 for maximum print quality are both selectable, as well as draft quality modes and toner save modes. For further expandability options, an external duplexor can be added on additionally for automatic double sided printing.

With automatic two sided printing, the HP LaserJet 4000tn can not only reduce paper costs by as much as half, but produce professional looking documents with a high quality feel, as well as creative single page brochures and fliers, further rounding out the device as a valuable, and versatile, all around office printer.

Hp Color Laserjet 2605Dn – Network Duplexing Color Laser Printer

The user friendly HP Color LaserJet 2605dn is one of the better designed units on the market concerning ownership of a color laser device by a home business. Though print speeds suffer drastically when compared to higher end models, the intuitive controls and simple features, as well as affordable price tag, make the LaserJet 2605dn a considerable option not only for a small office, but personal ownership as well.

Print speeds run at about half that of office level color laser units, with only 12 pages per minute for black and white printing, and up to 10 pages per minute for color. A first page time of 20 seconds is also considerably slower than the HP Color LaserJet 2605dn’s higher priced rivals.

With an emphasis on ease of use, the HP Color LaserJet 2605dn comes equipped with a two line, 16 character display that not only alerts users of printer status in plain, easy to read English, but also assists in making setup easier than ever, even for a novice user. Included software such as HP Web Jetadmin Peripheral Management and HP SureSupply also make setting up the printer and managing toner easy.

The HP Color LaserJet 2605dn’s paper handling abilities weigh in at a standard total of 250 sheets, with an optional, additional 250 sheet paper tray. While the HP Color LaserJet 2605 and 2605dn models come only with a single tray, HP also offers a HP Color LaserJet 2605dtn that comes with the additional paper storage included. The 2605dtn also interestingly comes with photo memory card slots, whereas the other models do not. A 125 sheet output bin is standard on all units.

With the HP Color LaserJet 2605dn and 2605dtn models, not only is networking made standard, but duplexing as well, for a significant boost in potential productivity over the base model. With network duplexing, it’s possible for an entire office or household to reap the benefits of double sided printing, a feature that can not only add a polished, professional look to documents, but also cut down on paper usage by as much as half.

A built in high speed USB 2.0 port complements the built in 10/100 Base TX Ethernet/ Fast Ethernet port for users who wish to use the HP Color LaserJet 2605dn as a personal printer alone. HP ImageRE resolution enhancement technology allows for great quality color prints at 2400 dots per inch, while a 300 MHz processor ensures that workloads move smoothly.

With 64 MBs of built in memory, most projects will operate without incident, but if super high complexity and imagery begins to slow production down, an industry standard 100 pin DIMM slot allows for a variety of possibly memory upgrades totaling no more than 320 MBs of overall RAM. A maximum monthly duty cycle of 35,000 sheets, along with a one year limited warranty and exchange policy, ensure that the HP Color LaserJet 2605dn will serve as a decent long term investment for a home business, or even a small office interested in color laser technology.

HP LaserJet 4000n ? Network Ready Printer with Straight Through Paper Path

As the network ready variant to the HP LaserJet 4000, the HP LaserJet 4000n comes with Ethernet capabilities included, as well as a boost in RAM to assist with the additional demands placed on a network device. All together, the LaserJet 4000n is a well thought out machine capable of print and network speeds appropriate for an office of limited size. Additionally, as the unit has been discontinued, bargain hunters could potentially snag it up at a discount price.

An additional 4 MBs of ram over the base model HP LaserJet 4000’s 4 MBs (8 MBs total) is intended to keep print speeds moving along at optimal capacity under heavy stress due to a network. If users find themselves bogging down the printer to an unacceptable degree, additional memory upgrades are also available. Multiple DIMM slots are available for upgrades such as 16 MB EDO DIMMs or 32 MB SDRAM DIMMs. Flash DIMM permanent storage and even specific font DIMM cards such as traditional Chinese or simplified Chinese is also available.

Other additional hardware available to upgrade the HP LaserJet 4000n includes an HP JetDirect print serve EIO card, and a hard disk option for permanent storage of frequently used data, such as a job application or employee registration sheet. The maximum total memory, however, is 100 MBs.

While the HP LaserJet 4000n prints at 17 pages per minute onto letter sized paper, its competitive 16 page per minute legal sized print speed is more impressive. This almost lossless speed is due in part to a built in 100 MHz RISC processor. Resolution also runs high thanks to both ProRes 1200 and FastRes 1200 quality options. Other print levels of 300 or 600 dots per inch are also selectable for potential speed boosts when dealing with low resolution graphs or charts.

Paper handling abilities come standard in the form of a 500 sheet paper tray, but accessories are available. An additional 500 sheet tray can double the standard storage capacity when high volume printing is necessary, and a unique, high capacity 75 envelope power feeder can be attached as well, which is perfect for businesses with a demand for custom postage material.

An external duplexor is also available for purchase, which can not only add a professional look and feel to single sheet documents, as well as booklets, but cut down on overall paper costs. While the HP LaserJet 4000n does come standard with the 500 sheet tray, HP also offers users an interesting option of having two 250 sheet trays in its place. This would only be a valuable asset when constant swapping from various paper sizes would come into play.

A simplified control panel makes accessing various controls and settings available directly from the unit itself, though wired setting changes are optional as well. For thicker media types, such as transparencies, the HP LaserJet 4000n includes a rear fold out tray that allows for a straight through paper path to prevent crimping. This, along with HP’s 12 month warranty, makes the 4000n a viable option for users in demand of a standard office printer.

What do I need to do setup Wireless printing for my HP 2175 all-in-one? How do I set the wireless network?

I have three computers in my house, all laptops. I want all of them to be able to print off of one printer.

Does the network need to be setup on one computer and then added by the others? How do I do this?

Also, is there a way that the printer can just be plugged into the wall, not connected to any computers, and still be able to have all 3 print off of it?

HP LaserJet P3005 ? Monochrome Laser Series with Network Options

The HP LaserJet P3005 printer series was designed to be flexible, better suiting it for very specific work demands. With five model variations available, buyers can choose the hardware set that best suits their needs, without wasting money on accessories that are frivolous.

While the base model operates at up to 35 pages per minute, which stays constant throughout each of the five models, certain variations in the hardware include more standard RAM memory, allowing for better print speed consistency when dealing with larger printing tasks. Also consistent among the printers in the series is the efficient 400 MHz processor.

Model variation options include a HP LaserJet P3005d duplexing model, which makes double sided printing automatic, as well as includes additional standard memory, and the HP LaserJet P3005n printer which includes an HP Jetdirect fast Ethernet embedded print server and a total of 80 MBs of on board memory.

The base model comes equipped with only 48 MBs of internal memory, but all printers in the HP LaserJet P3005 are expandable up to 320 MBs. The HP LaserJet P3005dn variation comes complete with both duplexing capabilities and a Jetdirect Ethernet card, and, lastly, the HP LaserJet P3005x comes with duplexing, networking, and an additional 500 sheet paper tray for a total storage capacity of 1,100 sheets.

Standard paper handling abilities come in the form of a single 500 sheet paper tray and a 100 sheet multipurpose tray for special media types such as envelopes, card stock, and transparencies. The additional 500 sheet tray can be added to the models that lack it, and can be useful when constant switching back and forth from letter to legal sized paper is necessary. Output capacity rests at a very comfortable 250 sheets and an additional 100 sheet rear output bin. Up to 10 envelopes or 75 transparencies can also be exported to these bins.

The HP LaserJet P3005 comes with more connectivity options than we often see in bare bones laser printers, and includes an IEEE 1284-B compliant parallel port as well as a Hi Speed USB 2.0 port. Networked models also include an active Ethernet port, and all printers in the series come with an open EIO slot for expansion.

On top of the HP LaserJet P3005 series’ incredibly fast print speed, the unit also comes equipped with HP Instant On technology which allows for a warm up time of virtually zero and a first page out time of only 9.5 seconds. True 1200 x 1200 dot per inch resolution is attainable, and HP FastRes 1200 gives users a 1200 dpi equivalent while maintaining the device’s top print speed.

Further expandability options include various warranty extensions for up to three years, as well as HP Jetdirect wireless USB 2.0 print servers, and other wireless connectivity options which can help to make networking the device easier than ever. An additional hard drive can be useful for storing frequently used data for long terms, helping to get the most out of this fast, user friendly monochrome printer.
