Though the HP Color LaserJet CP4005n lacks an automatic duplexor like its sister model, the HP Color LaserJet CP4005dn, it does come equipped with a network card allowing this impressively fast color laser printer to interface with an entire networked office and full advantage to be taken of its high monthly duty cycle, and notable print specifications.

With print speeds of up to 30 pages per minute for letter sized paper, the HP Color LaserJet CP4005n is intended to minimize wait time when dealing with heavy work loads. While color printing tops out at 25 pages per minute, the model’s speed is competitive with any color laser device in the CP4005n’s category.

HP intended to make the HP Color LaserJet CP4005n as user friendly as possible, and has included additional software to help first time users get started taking advantage of this high powered unit. HP Marketing Assistant software allows full control over the entire printing process, letting users maximize efficiency, as well as confidentiality. The software also includes templates to help speed up the process of producing marketing materials.

128 MBs of total memory are included with the device, but this is expandable up to 512 MBs for optimal performance under high stress conditions, such as in a networking scenario. A front loading 100 sheet multipurpose tray allows for easy and automatic media production onto special paper types including plain, glossy, colored, preprinted, letterhead, recycled, HP tough and high-gloss laser, as well as envelopes, transparencies, labels, and cardstock.

A 500 sheet standard letter or legal sized tray is also implemented into the hardware, bringing the unit’s stock paper storage total up to 600 sheets, however, an additional 500 sheet tray is available as an add on, making the HP Color LaserJet CP4005n’s paper potential 1,100 sheets, while the unit’s paper handling abilities are complemented with an incredibly large 500 sheet face down output tray.

At over a hundred pounds, with dimensions of 20.5 x 23.5 x 24.7 in (W x D x H), the unit is not exactly petite, and would be quite cumbersome for use in a home office, especially with the paper tray open which, when extended, brings the units footprint up to 20.5 x 37.4 x 22.9 inches, taking up over three feet of depth. At this size, you would expect the device to offer robust overall duty statistics, and it delivers.

The HP Color LaserJet CP4005n is rated at up to 80,000 pages maximum monthly duty, with a recommended usage between 2,000 and 7,500 pages for optimal performance. For a color laser printer, these numbers are very high, and represent a device that can withstand constant work demands.

HP also backs this printer with their award winning customer service, including a one year limited warranty, web and phone based technical support, and a year of next day, on site repair service. With a company like HP behind this product, and over 100,000 LaserJet printers sold worldwide, you can trust that a purchase of an HP Color LaserJet CP4005n will leave you in good hands, at least for twelve months.

HP LaserJet P1505n ? High Speed Desktop Network Printer

laserjet printing
by owenkohai

As the network version of one of the most interesting desktop printers available today, the HP LaserJet P1505, the HP LaserJet P1505n adds Ethernet compatibility to an already impressive device. Designed with speed in mind, and speed alone, the P1505 competes for the top spot among its peers for print speed, and has one of the fastest first page out times of any device on the market of any kind, including industrial grade copy machines and MFCs.

With a print speed of up to 24 pages per minute for letter sized paper, the HP LaserJet P1505n will not keep you waiting when dealing with large projects and, even more notably, its first page out time of an amazingly fast 6.5 seconds places it in the highest ranks for single page speed against any machine available today, making it one of the best options for users who often print in very small quantities.

While the HP LaserJet P1505n is a proven champion for speed, it pretty much has nothing else to offer, which is a major plus for those looking to save a few dollars on a stripped down, no frills device, but who also require fast print times. Even with such quickness, the printer maintains high resolution output rated at 1200 x 1200 dots per inch with REt resolution enhancement, or HP FastRes 1200.

The unit’s built in memory ranks in at a very solid 32 MBs, a huge upgrade over the non network capable base model which comes equipped with only 2 MBs. With sufficient memory, multiple simultaneous incoming projects caused by network traffic will be sorted out without delay, and processed quickly. An additional 2 MBs of flash memory is included with the networked version of the device.

A 266 MHz processor is also thrown into the mix to help keep things moving along, and host based printing intelligently utilizes connected PCs to reduce processor strain on the printer. The HP Jetdirect Fast Ethernet embedded print server is great for wired networking, and an HP wireless printing upgrade kit is available as an optional add on for fast and easy wireless connectivity.

As the HP LaserJet P1505n is not designed for extremely heavy output, its maximum monthly duty cycle is limited to only 8,000 pages, and its recommended monthly print duty is only 250 to 2,000 pages. While these numbers would be unacceptable in an intensive office environment, this print volume is ideal for the home user, or small office with light print demands.

While cost effectiveness forbids the inclusion of an automatic duplexor, manual duplex options are available for two sided printing. With such minimalistic hardware, the HP LaserJet P1505n comes in a very small package, weighing only 12.9 pounds with a footprint of 14.9 in x 9.6 in x 8.9 in (W x D x H) securing it as one of the most manageable monochrome personal printers in both size and price. With so much speed squeezed into such a small package, buyers of the HP LaserJet P1505n will certainly be very happy.

Network Management Software Offers a Solution to the Dirty Little Secret in Printing Costs

Clearwater, FL (PRWEB) December 18, 2006

Most printer manufacturers don’t make much from the sale of printers, according to industry observers. Most essentially recoup their production costs on the sale of each printer. They make the bulk of their profit selling ink, toner, and paper to businesses, schools, and offices, which typically lack the ability to track and control their printing costs. The more ink, toner, and paper that printer manufacturers sell, the greater their profits. So can you expect the printer management software bundled with branded printers to control network printing as effectively as a third-party network management software solution?

The answer is no. Printer manufacturers often include some printer management software with their printers. But these controls are typically limited to their brand or an individual machine, as they aren’t true network management software solutions. This limits their effectiveness in most business, school, and office environments, which tend to use multiple printer brands across their networks.

And consider this: even as computer prices have steadily dropped, the cost of one high-tech necessity has remained stubbornly high. Printer and toner cartridges are so costly that one printer giant has long made more than two-thirds of its profit from selling them. Because printer manufacturers essentially sell inkjet and low-end laser printers as loss-leaders to generate a high-margin revenue stream from consumable ink, toner and paper, relying on them to control printing costs is like putting the fox in charge of guarding the henhouse.

A company called Software Shelf is trying to change all that with a third-party network management software solution. Software Shelf makes a product called “Print Manager Plus”. It’s a simple, inexpensive way to control network printing. It not only allows administrators to restrict printer users by dollar amount, job size, file type, or other specifiers, but also gives them an easy, centralized way to view essentially everything printed on the network, see how much it costs, who’s doing it, which printers are used, and so on.

Unlike printer software that works on a single machine or just with a specific brand, Print Manager Plus can track, manage, control, and account for the cost of printing on all printer brands across the network, and is a true network management software solution. As the only purely native Windows printer control software, it offers greater stability than non-native Windows options. Because it’s licensed by print server, each license covers unlimited printers, users, and workstations across the network.

Print Manager Plus is used by thousands of corporations, small businesses, and organizations worldwide to control their printing costs, including Hyatt Hotel, Commerzbank, Capital Blue Cross, and Aventis Pharma Canada. As network management software, it is the only third-party software included in Microsoft’s Learning Network Manager, and was granted Microsoft’s “Solution of the Month” for 14 straight months on the company’s Public Sector Website.

Keyspan USB Print Server and USB Extender Shares USB Devices on a Network

Richmond, CA (PRWEB) August 1, 2007

Keyspan announced today that it is now shipping its new USB 2.0 Server. The server combines the functionality of a USB print server and USB extender. It allows PC and Mac clients to access two Hi-Speed USB 2.0 devices over Ethernet or WiFi.

Keyspan’s USB 2.0 Server lets multiple users share USB devices on a network and extends a USB connection–between a host PC and the USB device–over any distance. The USB 2.0 Server eliminates the need to dedicate a PC as a host for a USB device. Students, wireless office workers and road-warriors alike can access USB devices from a laptop via WiFi.

USB 2.0 Server Features:

Connects two USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices to a (10/100) Ethernet network
Compatible with USB printers, scanners, digital cameras, storage devices, data loggers and other USB devices
Supports bi-directional communication with printers that e.g. allows users to monitor ink and paper levels remotely
For use with PCs running Windows XP or Windows Vista, or Macs running Mac OS X® (10.3.9 or later)

“Enabling users to access USB devices over a network connection offers many new possibilities”, noted Mike Ridenhour, president of Keyspan. “Sharing USB devices and extending a USB connection over long distances are key applications for a USB server.” Ridenhour notes that letting users connect to USB devices over WiFi from their laptop, “saves the time and effort of going to the USB device and plugging in a cable.”

Now shipping, the Keyspan USB 2.0 Server retails with an MSPR $ 129, and is available to consumers now at the Keyspan online store, CDW, PC Connection, and other leading resellers. The Keyspan USB 2.0 Server is available to resellers in the USA via Ingram Micro, D&H, and Wynit. Check Keyspan’s web site for a list of international distributors.

HP LaserJet 4050n ? Network Ready Device with Envelope Feeder

Posted: Apr 28, 2010 |Comments: 0

Boasting both networking capabilities and a high monthly duty cycle, as well as rarely seen features such as a very high capacity envelope feeder, the HP LaserJet 4050n offers unique solutions for small to medium sized offices in need of printing output in high volume on media types other than your standard letter and legal sizes.

With a 75 envelope feeder built in to the HP LaserJet 4050n, as well as an advertised maximum monthly duty cycle of 65,000 printed pages, offices or home businesses dealing with a large amount of snail mail will be in envelope heaven. Standard paper handling capacities are decent as well with the device, totaling 600 sheets worth of storage capacity composed of a single 500 sheet tray along with a 100 sheet priority slot.

Thanks to the help of ceramic technology, the HP LaserJet 4050n offers an Instant On feature which means zero warm up time, and a first page out time of only 13 seconds. Regular print speeds run at up to 17 pages per minute onto letter sized paper, placing the unit somewhere in the middle of its class. It is, however, high up there concerning raw size.

With a footprint of 19 in x 15 in x 14 in (W x D x H), the HP LaserJet 4050n stands out as a heavier model. This is mostly due to its age, as current printers on the market run much sleeker, and come as light as half this unit’s weight of 43 lbs.

Standard memory included is a decent 8 MBs, which should keep all text document related projects running along optimally. However, for complex projects, internal DIMM slots make memory upgrades up to 192 MBs possible for minimal slowdown. Also upgradable is the unit’s paper storage capacity, with a single 500 sheet tray available for purchase separately that brings the units potential paper capacity up to an impressive 1,100 sheets total. Output capacity is locked at 300 sheets, with 250 sheets up top, and 50 in the rear.

With a rear output tray, a straight through paper path option is made possible. This is especially useful for the envelope users who don’t wish to crease or bend their product. An optional hard disk worth 3.2 GBs is a great choice when permanent, on board storage is required for those who print the same thing often, or are transporting the device to a new location.

Built in wired Ethernet capabilities make the HP LaserJet 4050n network ready, and its sturdy build and monthly duty cycle make it perfect as a backup printer for larger offices due to its abilities for mass output. Unfortunately, though the unit is network ready, it is equipped only with Parallel and serial ports for single computer connectivity. No USB port is incorporated into the hardware whatsoever.

While the HP LaserJet 4050n is a fairly standard device on many fronts, its envelope feeder makes it a great option as a special media type only workgroup unit for offices that have a frequent demand for abnormal paper sizes.

HP LaserJet 1214nfh ? Network MFC with Phone Handset

By: QuickShip.com

It has become rarer and rarer these days to find a fax capable device that also includes a handset for regular phone calls, but the HP LaserJet 1214nfh has you covered if you wish your printer / copier to serve as an additional land line thanks to an included telephone that works seamlessly with the multifunctional center, even when printing or copying.

As one of the most affordable 4 in 1 units on the market, and part of HP’s 1200 line, which is their most affordable series, the HP LaserJet 1214nfh offers a huge range of versatility at a price ranging around two hundred dollars. Including a built in 33.6 Kpbs Fax modem, the unit can send and receive data at a rate of up to 3 seconds per page at fax quality of up to 300 x 300 dots per inch, and a standard resolution mode of 203 x 98 dots per inch.

While the HP LaserJet 1214nfh’s duty cycles are restrictingly low, at 8,000 pages per month maximum and 250 to 2,000 pages per month recommended, its print speed is high, with 19 pages per minute to letter sized paper, and up to 18 pages per minute for legal sized paper, making it ideal for the user with light output demands who still wishes to have a decent print rate.

Scan speed runs at up to 6 pages per minute for black and white, and up to 3 pages per minute in color. 4 x 6 inch photos can scan in less than seven seconds. While scanning is possible in color at a bit depth of 24, monochrome scans are also possible via dedicated controls at a grayscale of 256. Print resolution, while topping out at 600 x 600 dots per inch, can be set for resolution enhancement, brining the effective quality to 1200 dpi.

A built in automatic document feeder aids in the completion of extensive copy and scan tasks, as up to 35 pages at once can be loaded into the machine for automatic rifling, reducing user downtime to a minimum. Unfortunately the HP LaserJet 1214nfh’s standard paper tray is much more limited, topping out at only 150 pages worth of storage, but a 100 sheet multipurpose tray boosts the devices capacity to a degree. An output capacity of up to 100 sheets of standard paper or 10 envelopes is actually quite large, but neither of the trays are expandable in any way.

Designed as a personal multifunctional device, the HP LaserJet 1214nfh has a very small weight and footprint, with 17.1 x 10.4 x 12 in. (W x D x H) in dimension and only 18.3 pounds in weight, the unit could easily be considered a desktop MFC. Though the unit is small, it does come complete with a network card and an Ethernet port, so it can be shared throughout an entire household, or small office.

To make operation of the unit simple and easy, the HP LaserJet 1214nfh also comes complete with a 2 line LCD display, making it one of the more user friendly, affordable printers on the market today.
