Sporting many of the features that have made HP one of the industry leaders in print technology, such as their no wait Instant On fuser technology, the HP LaserJet M2727nf offers buyers a way to save money by combining many essential office appliances into one multifunctional device. With fast print and copy speeds, but minimal expandability options, the M2727nf keeps costs low and performance high.
A print speed of 27 pages per minute helps to keep user downtime at a minimum when dealing with large projects, though, when the HP LaserJet M2727nf is set to best quality mode, print speed takes a drastic hit and is reduced to only 8 pages per minute. With no warm up time, the unit can execute a first page out time of a respectable 10 seconds, so even single page print jobs will be ready with rapid speed.
A 450 MHz processor also helps to keep things moving along briskly, as does on board Random Access Memory totaling 64 MBs. Unfortunately, RAM is not expandable with the HP LaserJet M2727nf, and neither is paper storage, though, interestingly the unit does come with an open 144 pin DDR2 DIMM slot. Standard paper storage comes in the form of a 300 sheet capacity standard paper tray, and a 50 sheet multipurpose tray that can be used with envelopes, transparencies, index cards, and card stock.
The HP LaserJet M2727nf’s paper output capacity rests at 125 sheets, and a built in automatic duplexor can help to reduce overall paper usage by as much as half. With automatic duplexing, two sided printing is made easy, providing a professional finish to documents that is also cost effective.
Various resolution settings allow users to select how their output will look, and how fast workloads will print. REt, HP FastRes, HP ProRes 1200, and HP TrueRes settings are selectable with a maximum print quality of 1200 x 1200 dots per inch. The unit’s monthly duty cycle of 15,000 sheets total is slightly limiting for work scenarios with high print demands, and the automatic document feeder’s 2,250 page maximum is even more crippling to productivity.
HP recommends only 750 sheets to 3,000 sheets of output per month for maximum performance and lifespan, but HP does back the printer up with a one year limited warranty that includes telephone and web based technical support.
Copy resolution is slightly limited, at only 600 x 600 dots per inch, but scan resolution is selectable up to a full 1200 x 1200 dots per inch optical, and up to 19,200 dots per inch when using scan resolution enhancement. Both fax and copy speeds are fairly fast, with fax transmissions possible at up to 3 seconds per page thanks to a built in 33.6 Kbps fax modem.
The HP LaserJet M2727nf is a hefty unit, weighing in at 37.8 pounds, with a footprint of 19.7 x 16 x 18 in. (W x D x H), but is fairly affordable considering its versatile hardware set,the duplexor, and network card, making it a good buy for those with light print demands.
