Why are new printers so slow in printing a run of envelopes? Are there any fixes?

My boss tells me that this is the “wave of the future,” but how can that be? We have two new printers, an HP4750 and an HP 2420, both very aggressive and with all options. But it takes FOREVER to print, say, 100 envelopes. And although our IT department has given it some time and attention, they haven’t been able to help. Can anyone?

Acquaint yourself With ?computer Printers?

A computer printer is a device used for printing text or images on hard copy stored in electronic
form, generally on physical print media like paper. Printers are designed to
support both local and network connected users simultaneously.

Nowadays, modern printers can directly interface to electronic devices like digital cameras. Some printers that come with non printing features are commonly known as Multi-Functional Printers (MFP) or Multi-Function Devices (MFD). It integrates various functions of multiple devices into one. Such types of printers are extremely useful for small businesses and home offices.

As opposed to a traditional printer, a multi-functional printer is a combination of devices like Printer, Scanner,Photocopier, and Fax Machine. Likewise, there are numerous other types of printers widely available in the market. Let’s take a look at them:

Laser Printer:A laser printer works in a similar fashion as a photocopier does. It has a roller which is charged with electricity. A laser beam is passed to remove the charge from portions of the roller.  The parts hit by the laser are powdered by the toner which is then transferred from the roller to the paper. Finally, the ink is baked into the paper with the help of a heater incorporated in the printer. People generally prefer laser printer because of its ability to give high quality output and high speed.

Dot Matrix: It has a print head that moves across the page. A dot matrix printer produces characters
using a cluster of pins which press an inked ribbon to the paper, thereby creating a dot. Each character is made in the same way. Dot Matrix printers are relatively cheaper and durable. These qualities still attract businesses which use them as invoice printers.

Ink Jet and Bubble Jet: It works in a manner similar to a Dot Matrix Printer. However, its print head sprays liquid ink onto the page instead of pressing a dry ink against the page. Inkjet and bubble jet printers are better known as predecessors of laser printers. They produce better image quality and run faster.

From inkjets to monochrome and color lasers, different printers are designed to
accomplish different tasks. Companies like DELL, CANON, LEXMARK, BROTHER, EPSON, and HP HEWLETT PACKARD are most preferred when it comes to buying a printer. Nowadays, computer printer support is widely available on the Internet which saves you from taking it to any expensive technician for troubleshooting.

How do I setup my print server – I have a small office with 4 computers and 2 printers?

I would like to setup my print server for my small office. I have 4 computers (on D-Link wireless router) with additional laptop users that come and go and I want everyone to be able to use BOTH printers; a Sharp Multifunction Laser & Canon Inkjet. I bought a EUSSO 2 USB/1 Serial print server and connected it to my wireless router as well as the printers, but can’t figure it out!!! I’m running Windows XP Professional on all of the computers. Thanks for your help!

Can one Linksys print-server run 2 printers via USB splitter between the print-server and the printers?

I’ve got a Linksys wireless print-server. Right now, it’s run to a single printer, but I have a second printer that I have to plug into the computer. Can put a USB splitter on there so that it will run two printers?

[Printer 1]————|
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [USB Splitter]——–[Wireless Print-Server]
[Printer 2]————|

I’m fairly certain that it will send the signal to both printers and my guess is the signal will contain an identifyier that will indicate which printer to send to, but I’m not sure it will work and I don’t want to risk messing up my system to find out.

Thanks!

Barcode Printers Continue to Improve by Getting Faster and Easier to Management

Barcode printers have been around for years and while they continue to improve year-over-year, Zebra has made significant improvements this year with the release of its Xi4 series of next generation direct thermal and thermal transfer barcode printers.

The Zebra Xi series of barcode label printers have long been the industry’s benchmark for industrial label printers and are the defacto standard for warehouse and transportation companies. Past barcode printers include the 110XiIIIplus barcode printer, the 140XiIIIplus label printers, the 170XiIIIplus barcode label printer and the 220XiIIIplus thermal transfer label printer.

Zebra has injected new “Xi”tement into the Xi series with the improved functionality and performance of our next-generation Xi4 printers. Xi4 printers carry on the high-performance hallmarks of Zebra’s legendary rugged, reliable, all-metal Xi series with:

Trouble-free, 24/7 operation for reduced downtime and maintenance costs Consistent print quality on the widest range of media thicknesses 40 percent faster print speeds Redesigned front control panel includes larger, brighter, easier-to-read LCD 110Xi4 is built RFID Ready to grow with future needs

The Zebra Xi4 barcode printers, including the 110XI4 barcode printer, the 170Xi4 label printer, the 170Xi4 barcode printer and the 220Xi4 thermal barcode label printer, are now available and come with a number of options for both media handling (such as cutters and rewinders) as well as interface options (such as Ethernet and Wireless). More specifically, the Zebra thermal label printer models include the following: the Zebra 110Xi4 label printer which is Zebra’s flagship printer now delivers faster 14 ips print speeds and is designed for applications with high duty cycles in harsh environments; the fast, durable, and reliable Zebra 140Xi4 also features 14 ips speed with ease of integration and mission-critical reliability while the Zebra 170Xi4 label printer is Zebra’s high-performance, compliance-labeling solution and is ideal for AIAG, ODETTE, and UCC/EAN-128 labeling on demand or in batches; and of course, the Zebra 220Xi4 label printer which features advanced printer management tools and is perfect for chemical-drum, banner-size, and other wide-label applications. Additionally, all of these barcode printers utilize standard direct thermal and thermal transfer stock to minimize any switching costs. Just as importantly, these printers can print on a wide range of media including direct thermal labels, tags and RFID labels.

Other barcode printer manufacturers include Datamax-O’Neil and Intermec who are also continuing to improve the current state of barcode printers through more software functionality, as well as improved reliability and ease-of-use. All of this is driven by user requirements for lower TCO for their barcode printers, thus driving the need for capability like remote management and monitoring of all barcode equipment, including thermal barcode printers.
