When it comes to advertising, I have always believed in an old fashioned approach. In my opinion, there is no reason to overpay for advertising and take away from the profits of my business. This is why I like printing flyers to get my name out there.
Using flyers as a way to spread the word of my business has been a simple way that I have saved money and yet still had effective advertising. The key was making sure that the flyers were of the top quality. To guarantee this, I personally used some outsourcing to get the printing services of another company that works in advertising. They were able to meet all of my specifications in a timely manner and for a good price. It was certainly better work than I could have personally done with my own printers.
When I first decided that printing flyers was the route that I was going to take, I started looking for digital printing reading . I knew that I wanted something that stood out. This meant having the flyers on brightly colored paper with words that really stood out and made people want to stop and read them. This process was highly effective. By placing the phone number of my company at the bottom of the flyer I was able to more than double the amount of calls that I was receiving from interested customers. As you might imagine, this was a nice boost in sales for me. I highly recommend using this strategy for all small businesses.

T-shirts used for t-shirt printing are often made of cotton because of the material’s absorbency to textile inks. Polyester and other types of fabric are also used, but nothing beats screen printing a six-color process image onto cotton fabric.
However, for those who care for the environment and the people who work for textile companies, not all cotton t-shirts are good. Aside from using water-based inks, environmentally aware companies and clients can opt to use fair trade and organic clothing for t-shirt printing.
What Is Fair Trade?
Fair trade is a trading partnership among producers, traders, and consumers to promote greater equity in international trade and contribute to sustainable development. It offers better trading practices and protection of the rights of marginalized producers and workers.
When consumers buy fair trade certified products, they contribute to the continuation of the partnership. Worker rights are protected and smalltime producers and traders are ensured fair trading practices. In t-shirt printing, the use of fair trade clothing ensures consumers that the shirt they are wearing came from decent trading practices.
Why Buy Fair Trade T-Shirts?
The t-shirt printing industry has taken steps towards the protection of our environment and reducing health risks associated with the chemicals used in the t-shirt printing process. Using fair trade clothing in t-shirt printing is just another way of doing good for our fellowmen and the world, in general.
A fair trade t-shirt is often made from 100% cotton that was harvested from cotton fields owned by producers in less industrialized countries. Cotton is one of the products covered by fair trade regulations. Other agricultural products include coffee, tea, cocoa, bananas, and spices.
When consumers buy Fair Trade certified t-shirts, they are buying organically grown cotton in their shirts. People with allergies or some type of skin reaction to polymer or other synthetic fibers can benefit from wearing pure cotton.
Buying a Fair Trade certified t-shirt can make a difference. For every t-shirt that is bought, a percentage of the profit goes to non-profit Fair Trade organizations. They will use the money to support the movement that will help improve the lives of poorer countries.
Organic Fibers and Fair Trade Clothing
There are three basic fibers organic t-shirts are made of: bamboo, hemp, and cotton. Of the three types of fabric, cotton is the more popular, while hemp and bamboo are often used for custom printed t-shirts.
The hemp used for making the t-shirts is industrial hemp. It is the strongest fiber in the world. Hemp cloth is stronger, longer lasting, more resistant to mildew, and cheaper to produce than cloth made of cotton.
If hemp is stronger than cotton, bamboo is very versatile. It is anti-bacterial, anti-static, and very soft like silk. It also draws moisture away from the body, making it perfect for athletic t-shirts and sweatshirts.
In t-shirt printing, the type of fibers used to make the t-shirt is an important factor. A thicker fabric might need more ink or a specific color separation technique for the design to look as colorful and vibrant as the original artwork. Generally, the type of fabric determines the amount of coverage and the t-shirt printing technique to use.

USB Flash Drives are proving popular with schools and universities up and down the country at the moment but they’re not all buying them for the same reason. Whilst many are buying them for their staff and pupils to enable them to backup and store their work lots of others are getting very creative and are buying them for all manner of events and activities including:
Award Ceremonies – A number of schools are buying USB flash drives printed with the school crest and details of their annual awards evening and are giving the branded flash drives to all of the attendees. The USB drives are pre-loaded with details of all of the award categories and winners before being handed out. Electronic versions of the Award Certificates are pre-loaded onto the drives for the award winners adding a personal touch to their particular drive.
School Open Evenings – Today with significantly more choice and power in the hands of the parent when it comes to selecting a school for their children it’s important that schools actively promote themselves to prospective pupils and parents alike. Pretty much all schools now make lots of information about the school available on the school web site(s) including performance tables, OFSTED reports and intake procedures. Much of this information is also given away on school open evenings but with the amount of information now demanded, printing and collating the information and having it ready for the open evening can be a daunting task. Consequently as an alternative some schools are now making all of this information available on a pre-loaded and branded USB memory sticks. The branded USB sticks are then handed out to the parents who in turn can read and/or print the information at their leisure.
School Shops – some enterprising schools are buying USB flash drives in bulk and at a discount and then reselling the USB sticks to pupils (and staff) via the school shop. Typically the profits flow back to the school but occasionally the purchase and sale of the sticks will be organised by a student group to enable them to fund raise for trips and events.
Fresher Fairs – in an effort to attract students to join certain events and activities at university it’s not unusual for promotional USB flash drives to be given away to encourage them to stop by and listen to a “pitch” at a specific stand.
DT Projects – some schools with students studying GCSE Design Technology have discovered that custom and bespoke USB flash drives are ideal products for students to develop their DT skills on. The core component of a USB flash drive; the controller chip, the flash memory module and the USB connector are readily available from UK suppliers and allow students to design, manufacture and package a complete USB product.
This list is by no means an exhaustive list but it does go some way to illustrate the diverse way in which USB flash drives are being used by schools and universities in the UK.
Phil is part of the team at USB2U. Launched in 2002 USB2U has now establised iteself as one of the leading supplier of branded flash drives and custom USB memory sticks in the UK. How Much Can Using the Most Efficient Laser Printer Save a Company?
Denver, CO (PRWEB) November 23, 2010
Most enterprise accounts (large organizations with thousands of users) have an IT department who is responsible for technology decisions. Their decision making reign goes from the computers, to the servers to the firewalls to the laser printers and copiers. No IT or Purchasing department is really equipped to know everything they need to know to get the best pricing and best technology for their organization’s situation. They depend on experts to advise and compare available products so they can make informed decisions. Laser printer and copier decisons can be the most expensive technology mistakes companies can make today because so few organizations actually speak to experts, they just purchase what they find online for the cheapest price. Small companies who don’t have this staff advantage are no different.
Why should an organization look at laser printers as a potential source of cost savings? According to Jesse Harwell, owner of Pahoda Image Products:
“We have seen companies make countless mistakes when purchasing printer and copier products through our sites over the years due to an organizations conflicting goals. One department is concerned about short term equipment costs while the other is concerned about ongoing toner costs. Very few organizations have the ability to actually choose the right laser printer based on usage, and by extension, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). That’s how we can help, we look at TCO numbers and make recommendations as simple as swapping printers based on cost per print information for the ultimate betterment of the customer’s bottom line”
So, how much can a business save? The answer is, it depends. The greater the quantity of inefficient laser printers a company has purchased to save up front capital, the more maximizing the fleet’s efficiency will save a company. It is incredible to see how much money can be wasted by laser printers. Taking a simple color laser printer example, if a company owns an HP Color Laserjet 2605 color laser printer and prints a mere 2,000 color pages and 500 black and white pages a month, the company will spend over $ 20,000 more than the most cost efficient color laser printer would have cost (A Xerox ColorQube 8870) over 5 years! Crying over spilled milk isn’t the solution. A quick assessment is necessary to see what kind of savings are available.
Most companies do not even want to initiate this kind of study unless they know it will be financially beneficial. Because of this tendency, Pahoda Image Products created an interesting tool which takes specific examples from customers and compares it against the most cost efficient laser printer on the market. This tool is called The Printer Challenge (http://www.printerchallenge.com) and is free to the curious consumer. It only addresses laser printers at this point in time. The consumer does have to put in their contact information to see what their printer was compared to (the actual model), but at least the financial differential can be seen before this information is required.
What if the organization wants to look at more than just one printer? Generally this is where a cost analyst comes into play as there are a lot more variables. In the example above, regarding the HP Color Laserjet 2605 printer, if the customer also has an HP Color LaserJet 4700 doing just 500 color prints per month, the two printers can be swapped and the business would save about $ 8,500 over 5 years or about $ 140 a month. Being efficient can really make a huge difference for companies struggling to keep their IT dollars under control.
What can a company save? According to the tools creator, a typical average is about $ 200 per laser printer per year. Finding the laser printer comparison tool provided by Pahoda Image Products is easy by going to their site http://www.printerchallenge.com
For those who want to do all the work themselves, another site is better for the laser printer comparisons.

I am looking into buying a wireless print server but i wondered, does it have to be the same brand as the router for it to work?
Many companies offer cheaper print servers than the company that make my router.
Are there any you would recommend?
In response to Dr Bucks, how else can i do it?
I have a PC at home that I use to connect to my work PC via remote desktop connection. The trouble is that when I try to print nothing happens.
When you log into RDP, there is an options button, and within that there is a check box that syas bring printing home (something like that). but it still doesn’t work…..
